On June 24, 2005, the Supreme Court put a big UP FOR GRABS sign on your home. The Court said it’s perfectly OK, under the U.S. Constitution, to take your home or business and give it to a politically connected private developer because that developer might be able to produce more taxes and more jobs off of your land.

In the face of this disgraceful decision upholding takings for private development, it might seem like the fight is over. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have been overwhelmed by emails and phone calls from citizens who are shocked and outraged by what the Supreme Court has done.

We have learned that individual citizens CAN make a difference. We have seen dozens of proposals for eminent domain go down in flames because of popular opposition. We’ve seen cities and states change their laws in response to the outrage of their citizens.

Right now, there is a tremendous momentum against this abuse of power, and we ask each of you to begin organizing to change the law in your city or county or state. The Castle Coalition will help you write the language, but now is the time to start organizing your friends and neighbors. Your local government will tell you there’s nothing to worry about, that it would never use eminent domain, or that it's only as a “last resort.” Don’t believe a word of it. Your only protection is a change in the law (or good state court rulings, which is what the Institute for Justice is working on).

Sign up right now to become a member of the Castle Coalition. The only requirement is that you oppose the abuse of eminent domain. We want to help you and the thousands of other citizens who are outraged by eminent domain abuse to organize and create real political change that will protect you and everyone else who owns a home or business in the United States.Despite the requirement of the United States Constitution and the constitutions of all fifty states, governments across the country routinely condemn property for the use of other private parties. Courts often decide to stand passively by and allow these travesties to occur.

The Castle Coalition is an effort by activists to take matters into their own hands. It was inspired by watching several communities defeat seemingly unstoppable projects to take homes and businesses to give to other private parties. This website seeks to give you ideas and tools to wage this battle yourself, in your own community. It is also our hope that the Castle Coalition will be a way for activists to network with each other and give support, ideas, and advice.

I like your keywords. I have been inserting those three words whenever I have come across this subject.

Remember, the preamble of the U.S. Constitution used to say "life, liberty, and PROPERTY".

I think this ruling further supports the right to own firearms and to protect one's self against a tyrannical government.

1) Hope no one blasts me for asking this question here, but I have been ALL OVER this site and can't find the answer! Is there a chat/vanity section of this site for the state of California? It seems to me that I stumbled on something like that a few months ago, but of course I didn't mark it, and now I would like to find it because ...

2)I am thinking seriously about organizing a Kelo protest in Santa Rosa, in the downtown courthouse square (or participating in one that is already under weigh). But I have no idea how to publicize this to Freepers without getting my cyberhead ripped off for improper posting! Can someone help out this relative newbie here?

Thanks!!!!!
