Last night's local Fox News ran a story that our local government is looking at using this precedent to force downtown landowners out to make room for a new sports stadium.
This was followed by a story announcing a new plan for a rapid transit system which will require the displacement of tens of thousands of homes and businesses.
it's as if the government here has been planning and waiting for this decision to be handed down, and can't wait to start seizing property under this travesty of justice.
No one is safe, not anywhere in the country.
Any state can pass a law saying we won't do it today, and later, when the furor dies down, quietly change the law back to business as usual.
The Constitution is supoposed to be our final line of protection, but the Supreme Court abdicated their authority.
Or worse.
and I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm fussing at you, just got off on a soapbox and ranted.
here we go, this was predictable. the idea that local and state government will move to restore this right is insane, those governments want these powers and developers are peeling off the hundred dollar bills for them now.
Dittos - Impeachment Lives!!!
Wrong. SCOTUS takes on any issue that it wants to rule on. They did not have to accept this issue and they did in order to apply their ideology. They are undermining states rights and that is unconstitutional. States should not have to put every issue into its state constitution in order to prevent SCOTUS from taking the law away from them. It is criminal what SCOTUS has been doing.
Mayor Peterson is part of the same government that instituted a special tax to pay for the Colt's stadium, paid off the stadium, continued to spend the tax money for projects unknown, and now, is pushing for a second stadium tax, even though we are still paying the first.
I trust him to apply this tyrannical Supreme Court ruling judiciously just as much as I trust him to be satisfied with two stadium taxes, and not, say, decide to reach out to the surrounding counties, not even within the city limits, to force us to pay the new tax too, about as much as I trust the wolf guarding the sheep.
This Supreme Court decision cannot stand by itself.
FR's poll shows 90+ percent responding with "Hell No".
The corrupt governments and greedy corporations either have to back down, or escalate the fight. As long as the First and Second Amendments are in place, even theoretically, the negation of the Fifth Amendment and our Constitutional right to own property cannot survive.
Just one more reason-MIKE PENCE FOR PRESIDENT
They are anyhow.
"Just one more reason-MIKE PENCE FOR PRESIDENT."
President of what?
USA Inc.?
A McDonalds where the White House used to stand?
ALL PROPERTY IS NOW FOR SALE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER.
WHETHER YOU CHOOSE TO SELL OR NOT.
I agree with everything you wrote. However, this problem begins with the elected thieves. It's like this: a criminal steals my property in an armed robbery. A judge lets him off. I blame the judge -- but I also blame the criminal scum. Fortunately for us, in this case the criminal scum (state and local elected officials) need our votes to keep their jobs. That's where to start.
Yes...but the Second Amendment ensures that we DO have an option if it became necessary...
That is correct. They've been stealing land in Florida for years.
A couple of years ago they condemned the whole Daytona Beach Boardwalk so high dollar developers could take control. They displaced people who had businesses on land their families had owned for generations.
This ain't new.
Knowing Peterson and Gov. Daniels, I would have expected them to just sieze the whole city to give to the Colts. And then sieze the whole state to make a really wide I-69. Those seem to be the priorities of our government here.
Peterson and the Governor are strong arming all the "donut" counties into an extra 1% tax on restaurants also. I doubt whether that stadium will stay under the $800 million that they are quoting.
I think there is going to be a passionate backlash against this USSC decision. People of every political leaning will see the fundamental unfairness of having your home stolen for what some hack judge calls "fair market value."
"Congress doesn't run this country, SCOTUS is ruining it."
Yep. While patriots were focused on elections and fighting a thousand social and smaller political issues, the Leftists went through law school and practice and slipped into the judiciary unnoticed.
However, in their arrogance and quest for power, they failed to learn the lessons of all preceding tyrannies.
I dropped a note in the mail to Pfizer asking them if they really had to have that land in New London. I'm a consumer after all. Hit 'em in the pocketbook people!

If any of you good folks have some pre-fab ping lists, this petition for impeachment of the five outlaw SCOUTUS justices is a good first step to reversing this tyrannical decision.
