This old gal went off the deep end big time on this issue. My cat is the biggest chicken of all time (he even once got his butt kicked by a bird!), and after paying one too many big-time vet bills for damage inflicted by feral toms, I keep a little BB pistol, pumped about four strokes.

This gives the intruding cat a slight sting, and while it doesn't hurt him, he's reminded that this isn't the place for him to be. Sooner or later they quit coming around.

But I should be able to "dispatch" any non indigenous animal that roams my property.

Only to a point.

Owned pets are an exception.

Cats are killers? None of my cats have ever killed half as many critters, including birds, as my dog has.

This woman is just plain evil.

This sort of histrionics is liberal emotionalism and discounts actual evil that is done all too often in this world.

"Well, my dad wants to shoot'em with the air rifle. I said call animal control. Then he said a#$hole neighbor would just get another cat."

Then tell your dad that it's time to reload!!

I have a fenced in patio. I also have bird feeders/waterers out there. I throughly enjoy watching the birds. So does my Corgi. He gets his thrill when I let him out there and he gets to chase them away. Also, I will soon be the proud "mama" of a kitten which will strictly be a house cat and won't be allowed outside unless I can leash train him. Suggestions anyone on how to leash train a cat?

But nothing justifies poisoning cats. Nothing.

Rabid cat that can't be trapped?

Dog catchers refuse to catch cats (don't blame them, have you ever tried). But typically they will loan you a trap to catch the vermin. If the animal control officer did'nt make this offer to the lady (s)he is responsible for the cats death along with the cats owner.

Her final mistake was not using a quick enough poison.

Is it also animal cruelty to poison rats? What's the difference? They are both pest animals with no right to be where they are.

You all know there are places where you can buy 'Cat Poison' over the counter.

Isn't the use of Special Salmon Dinner cat food entrapment? Those cats deserve a fair trial!!!

Then again I shoot at kids who jump my fence to get their Frisbee, so who am I to talk.

Maybe your cat is a lazy socialist, quite content to feed off the government teat.

All my experience with cats (via ex-girlfriends) is that they strive to bring a "present" back home at every opportunity.

Just start early, they get used to it.

I don't aim at the kids, what am I? Crazy???

I find a couple of shots in the air really teaches those kids a lesson. Plus I never have to go Christmas shopping because I get plenty of free Frisbees.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my kitty last week too, and it's very hard.

I hope this lady spends the rest of her pathetic life in the slammer!

You are exactly right. Catching birds is a cat's job. What a horrible end they endured.
