Increases homestead exemption $7,500 starting in 2007 (from $15,000 to $22,500) This is as misguided as the faux conservatives who want to put in an appraisal cap.
As Ronald Reagan said, broaden the tax base and lower the rate.

I'd still have liked to see some spending cuts here though, but any tax cut is usually okay in my book.

Is the $1,500 pay raise across the board? I suspect it is and with the tax increase in sales tax this is really misguided. Extremist put it just right; rearranging deck chairs.
Sheesh, what part of the state republican platform don't they get?

Am I the only one who noticed this?
In addition, his plan would increase the sales tax rate by 7/10 of a percent to 6.95%, and increase the cigarette tax by $1.
And they call this a tax cut??? Not in my book and I don't smoke.

And in L.A., CA the Dems see a huge gain from increased property value and they do as all Dems do-- they updated their budget and spending it all.

It is a CROCK!
#1 Perry along with everyone else in the World knows Property values are UP, so he has a window that he can Lower Property Tax Rates, and next month the Appraisers will raise Property values and the amount of Property Tax paid will be MORE, at the same time Sales Tax will increase, dramatically.
End Result Higher Property Taxes, Higher Sales Taxes and NOT ONE SINGLE CUT IN SPENDING.
Next year Property Taxes will go up to current rates along with City and County increases because of the illusion of MSM spreading a Tax Cut LIE.
This is a simple SCAM that should be old news, how many times can people fall for the same SCAMS, Politicians learned well from the MAFIA, and today Politicians and Mafia are separated by little more than Title.

increase the cigarette tax by $1. Raise the cigarette tax and I will employ every method possible to evade this tax, all without quiting smoking. I'm tired of getting kicked in the face because my vice isn't politically correct.

In order to facilitate the tax cut, Perry has proposed a close in franchise tax loopholes, leading to a more widely shouldered business tax. In addition, his plan would increase the sales tax rate by 7/10 of a percent to 6.95%, and increase the cigarette tax by $1.Instead of calling it a tax cut he should just admit it's a tax shift.. no taxes are being cut they are just collected by other means... too bad Our Government exempted themselves from the RICO act.

We will never fix the problem in Texas until we have a state income tax.
To: Constitutionalist Conservative
This is nothing but fraud. Lower the property taxes and they will just revalue the property value upwards so it's a wash. Meanwhile our sales taxes go up and up and more things are subject to a tax. And also, the wealthy "ranchers" run a couple of head of cattle on their "ranch" and get a tax break while the 93 year old widow is thrown out of her 800 square foot home because she can't pay the real estate taxes. This is an outrage and why I WILL vote for Kinky Friedman next election. We need a state income tax and we need it now. Any damn fool with a brain knows it as does every politician who is afraid to stand on his own two hind legs and admit it. Friedman was right when he declared we have the highest capitol building in the United States (taller than the U.S. capitol building) and it is populated by all midgets. Right on the money.
