Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts recently granted three reporters broad access to his Navy service records, according to documents obtained by the New York Sun.
The privacy waivers signed by Mr. Kerry authorized the release of 'a single, one time copy of the complete military service record and medical records of John F. Kerry' to Glen Johnson of the Associated Press, Michael Kranish of the Boston Globe, and Stephen Braun of the Los Angeles Times.
The waivers, executed on a National Archives form known as a Standard From 180, also permitted an 'undeleted report' of any discharges of any discharges ever granted to Mr. Kerry. The undeleted reports would include the 'character' of any discharge, the form indicates.
The Navy provided copies of the privacy waivers to the New York Sun in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.
A spokesman for Mr. Kerry rebuffed the Sun's request for access to the service and medical files released to the other three news organizations.

Well screened? kranish would do a lewinsky on frenchie if he wasn't shall we say, incapacitated by his bout with prostate cancer.
It is like the Clinton leaks during his own foibles. Leak a little info out at a time rather than letting the public get hit with a tidal wave of details.
If they set the bar a little lower each time, you won't realize how low you have to stoop to accept this man as "honorable".
Well the AP, Boston Globe, and LA Times were all caught manufacturing news. That right there shows that they can handle the job of spinning Kerry into being a "good" man.
AP was the other HALF of the National Guard memo messenger (and their articles for a week made no reference to the scandal supposing their authenticity).
The Boston Globe ran internet sex photos as "evidence" of rape and torture of Iraqi prisoners (the images had even been discredited prior to publication).
The LA Times ran a photo composite on the front page of a soldier "halting" a refugee with a small child.
I don't think the Boston Globe, LA Times or AP has released a story on these reports yet.
Just makes it seems sketchy, doesn't it?
Why hasn't the media just asked Senator Kerry why he didn't bother to release his military records BEFORE election day?
He kept saying "I will". This proves he lied about his intentions to do so. It was not an "oversight". Now that he "has" released them (at least in part) he has done so with limited access.
The stories about Kerry's lackluster grades at Yale (based on reporting from Kranish in the Boston Globe) resulted from the information released due to this form SF-180. I believe that the claim in that article was that there was nothing else new in the released records.

NO! Not according to John O'Neill. He said that when a person signs a Form 180 - ANYONE can obtain access to those records. Since the Sun has been denied access .. it tells me that John is selectively releasing just enough - HE THINKS - to get by with saying he signed a Form 180.
I think O'Neill has mentioned that it's possible to release only portions of your records. If so .. this would appear to be what Kerry has done .. thereby restricting who gets the information to only media outlets who will be kind to Kerry.
I don't know Navy rules. I'm just going by what O'Neill said.

the Navy said before the election that there were over 100 pages of keri's record he wouldn't release, so... unless there are 100 pages more than the LAST RELEASE he's STILL LYING!!!

The Navy said they had over 100 pages they could not release without Kerry's authorization. Did the Globe get that many and are they reporting on all of them? The biggest question of all remains unanswered. What type of discharge did Kerry originally receive? Remember, Kerry had his discharge re-issued after Carter granted a pardon to Vietnam vets.
Then there is this exchange between Kerry and Tim Russert on Feb 7th.
Last week the 2008 presidential hopeful suggested he wanted to review his full Navy file to make sure of "what is in the record and what isn't in the record" before signing Form 180.
"I'm going to sit down with them and make sure that they are clear and I am clear as to what is in the record and what isn't in the record and we'll put it out," he told "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert.
Kerry did not explain his reference to "what isn't in the record," though questions arose late in the campaign about why he received his honorable discharge six years after leaving the service...
That is an important distinction, thanks for adding that.
