Eleanor Mondale Diagnosed With Cancer

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Eleanor Mondale, the daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale, has been diagnosed with brain cancer, the Star Tribune reported Tuesday.

Mondale spoke to the newspaper just hours before she began her first session of radiation and chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Just a week ago, Mondale married local rock star Chan Poling.

"It's bad but not that bad," she said from her farmhouse in Prior Lake. "I've got a really good chance to beat it."

Mondale, 45, said her vision had bothered her in recent months but didn't believe there was anything seriously wrong until a camping trip May 16, when she suffered two seizures.

Doctors determined she had two tumors, both in her frontal lobe, and on May 31 they were found to be cancerous.

Mondale will undergo nearly seven weeks of oral chemotherapy and radiation, which could either zap the tumors completely or reduce them to a size that makes surgery safer.

God bless you and prayers for you as well.

She should consider writing a book about her relationship with Bill Clinton for the historical record if she's up to it.

Right now, she's got more urgent things to worry about.

Did Mondale have another daughter who froze to death on a city street or am I getting Senators crossed?

Best wishes to you and your boys. It has been almost eight years for me. Mine are now 21 and 26. The younger will be a Senior studying computer science at Illinois Institute of Technology and the elder finished his degree and is now finishing up the Navy's Nuclear Engineering program. Both are fine boys and I am sure your are as well.

The pain never really goes away but then neither does the joy which we shared. I wouldn't give up the twenty years of marriage we had for anything. Without her who knows what I would have become.

And it cracks me up that we've made it through 100 posts without anyone realizing that the two gentlemen spell their names differently.

And that said, best wishes for a speedy recovery. A dear friend of mine had, and beat, a brain tumor. It was extremely unpleasant but the story is remarkable.

I'm sure mondale was a partisan democrat. But I don't think he took bribes, covered up crimes, engaged in personal attacks, sold secrets to china and anyone else who would pay a nickel, had any questionable sexual activities, or used his office as a personal brothel.
