Eleanor Mondale Diagnosed With Cancer
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Eleanor Mondale, the daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale, has been diagnosed with brain cancer, the Star Tribune reported Tuesday.
Mondale spoke to the newspaper just hours before she began her first session of radiation and chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Just a week ago, Mondale married local rock star Chan Poling.
"It's bad but not that bad," she said from her farmhouse in Prior Lake. "I've got a really good chance to beat it."
Mondale, 45, said her vision had bothered her in recent months but didn't believe there was anything seriously wrong until a camping trip May 16, when she suffered two seizures.
Doctors determined she had two tumors, both in her frontal lobe, and on May 31 they were found to be cancerous.
Mondale will undergo nearly seven weeks of oral chemotherapy and radiation, which could either zap the tumors completely or reduce them to a size that makes surgery safer.
She has previously been married to former Chicago Bears (football) tackle Keith Van Horne and disc jockey Greg "Thunder" Malban.
Jimmy, Ronald Reagan won because he welcomed everyone - including like-minded Democrats. Politics is the art of addition and not subtraction. Stick to cracking safes.
This is about a guy's daughter who is sick.
By comparison.
My wife had her first siezure on the 4th of July 2002. After radiation and chemo and a crainiotomy to remove the tumor she passed away on Dec 18 of the same year. Prayers for ANYONE who has that horrible condition. You not only have to endure watching the progress of the disease but you also have to watch someone you love gradually lose their mind.
Mine are Nora (20), Conor (15), and Clare (10). Every five years - I was three for three. Just kidding, Mary! She still gives me a whack from beynd.
Van Horne was with the Bears at the time. They were married and eventually divorced.
She's a real beauty, no wonder Billdabubba had his eyes on her...prayers for her recovery.
Dear Lee,
I am sorry for your loss. That seems the common time-frame for this vicious tumor ( glio-blastoma) my wife Mary's covered the whole frontal lobe shortly after her radiation treatments ended. All cleared up and then BAM! Back and worse than ever.
We're talking about Keith Van Horne who played Tackle for the Chicago Bears during their good 1980's years - in 1985, the championship year, in fact, was one of them.
Mondale was a backroom brawler, no question. He was one of the ones who wanted to do away with the space program.
God bless
She was married to him.
I just realized that, thanks =p
God Bless and prayers from another guy who lost his wife to cancer.
day10
She was actually a CBS news reporter for a while, and did bit parts on TV.
Keith Van Horne is a graduate of USC (University of Southern California) was married to Eleanor Mondale.
I saw that. That was just so amazing he was awake and all the quizzing etc. Modern medicine! Prayers to Eleanor and family.
Typical FR response when a liberal celeb suffers tragedy: "I didn't agree with him/her, but I wish him/her well...I hope they beat this."
Typical DU response when a conservative celeb suffers tragedy: "YA-a-a-a-aHOOOO GREAT NEWS! I hope the M-F*ker is in total agony before he/she rots in hell!"
Lol. The Van-Horne follies in this thread are cracking me up. Just a bit of info...the Bears are a football team, Keith Van-Horne is a basketball player. And I'm pretty certain his college ball was at Utah, not BYU.
