Some case info to go along with this map...
(as far as I know this is all correct)

http://www.arubavacationhouse.com/images/arubamap.gif

The Island is 6 to 7 miles deep by about 20 miles long

B-1 = California Lighthouse - where the boys claim they took her first after leaving the Bar.

D-3 = #4 is the location of the 2 Marriott Hotels - where the 2 brothers (and now Joran) claim they dropped Joran and Natalee off after leaving the lighthouse -  the 2 brothers claim they went home to Hooiberg after that.

D-3 = #19 is the location of the Holiday Inn where Natalee was staying.

G-5 = Where the red #2 marker is pointing to is the area that the Carlos & Charlie Bar is located

D-4 = Township of Montana is where Joran lives

F-7/8 = Hooiberg (Haystack Mountain) - The 2 Kalpoe brothers live in this area at the foot of the Haystack Mountian.

C-9 = By the Natural Bridge on the map is the location where the sharks hang out as they are fed at this location. This is the Shark Infested Feeding Area.

E-3 = Wetland in the Bird Sanctuary is the location where they found the Condoms/Condom Wrappers - Duct Tape (looked like black electrical tape to me) - Female Flowered Panties - and a String or Strap from a Bikini or Halter Top.

And from the perspective of people who aren't driven by the clock to the extent that we here in the US are.

If the person missing were a local islander, you might have a point, but the person missing is a time driven American. I suppose this 'Island time' is what we are seeing regarding their extreme negligence and slow work on the case, in which their slowness has greatly jeopardized the case.

What time was the beach patrol person notified? Is this a fact or a rumor? If its a fact, got a source and link?

What I read was that a DEA agent met with the chaperone who had stayed in Aruba with Nat's stuff when she did not arrive for the plane the morning they left. When the DEA agent talked with her, he found out the beach patrol who had been notified had not filed a report. This was later afternoon, somehow the time 8 pm sticks with me, before the Holloways got there. Then he told the chaperone who to contact. The Holloways arrived later, around 10, and did their own sleuthing. During the day, the chaperone had called the kids back in Atlanta to find out what they knew.

My guess is the beach patrol just sort of took the report, thought everyone was overreacting and sat on it. I suspect they get reports alot. This is a gambling island, people miss planes. In fact in the US if you file a report like this, the cops do nothing for a couple of days even if a kid is 14,,assume it is a runaway.

You're good!

Which would have been the reason why he took her to his apartment? Wouldn't be the first time someone used a date rape drug to make a porno flick.

If the person missing were a local islander, you might have a point, but the person missing is a time driven American.

But that doesn't change how an islander processes the information. A trained PO should take that into account but we're talking about 'beach patrol'...grunts, I'd presume, who probably aren't highly trained. Aruba is a small island with a resident population of under 100,000.

What time was the beach patrol person notified? Is this a fact or a rumor?

It's from Diehl's timeline. There are few facts known in this case so the category is rumor. Quote & link follows. I'd suggest backtracking & trying to find out when the students' return flight landed back in Alabama to approximate when they left Aruba. Or check airline schedules?

...seniors were expected to be in the lobby of the Holiday Inn by 10:30 on Monday morning to assemble for the journey home... Local police were first notified of the situation at approximately 11:30 AM, one hour after the seniors scheduled departure from the hotel lobby. A member of the beach patrol was dispatched to take a report and collect a copy of her passport for identification purposes...Hotel staff interacted with the chaperone, answering questions and putting forth possible explanations prior to the travel agent for the trip being contacted at approximately 2PM. That is believed to be close to the time of the departing flight, though the exact time of the flight is unconfirmed...

Link

I suspect that the flight left earlier than 2 PM. Small island & it can't take all that long to get to the airport. Or, possibly they had a scheduled lunch stop? OTOH, it was a large group...over 100, I think, so allowing 3.5 hours to get everyone gathered & processed may not be unreasonable.

I would think a runaway is exactly when the cops should be doing something. Especially a minor. I was thinking yesterday that they rally need to re-evaluate who they deal with thes types of cases, because valuable time is lost, when they could have been looking for an abductor, or a murderer, etc.

Better to err on the side of caution. Investigate, if its nothing fine, if its something, get cracking. I wonder how many people have lost their lives because of delayed investigation and how many cases are unsolved because of lost evidence?

foxnews.com has an article posted this morning about Natalie's parents hiring their own investigative firm to search the island. In addition, they've hired an Aruba attorney and are going to court to sue for all the "evidence" that the police have.

Great news.

And a non profit group from Texas, "Texas EquiSearch" is going down there to help in the search for Natalee. 17 Volunteers, 3 cadaver dogs and some side scan sonar.

Team members are planning to leave for Aruba later today. God bless these people.

If the flight was at 2, it was international so I expect they want them at the gate 2 hours early. The islands airports are inefficient, ticketing agents take forever to check things, our tickets are always screwed up.

So to be there at noon, handle luggage, etc, it would take a while. And factored in was probably the expectation that kids would be late, they always are. So they gathered at 1030 expecting to leave at 11 to get to airport around 1115 to 1130 giving them some safe time to lose.

I'd forgotten that there were two flights. Thanx for reminding me.

Diehl's is the only timeline of the events of May 31 that I've been able to find. If either of you know of another source, please let me know.

After reading how Natalee's stepfather, Jug, and Beth feel about daddy van der sloot, I wouldn't be surprised if he was arrested next. I hope so. The man isn't acting normal and obviously knows something.

All that makes sense--plus, even considering two flights, it would have still been a big group. Seemed like a lot of time to me but, if my SO were scheduling, he'd probably insist on leaving the hotel at 8 AM for a 2 PM flight. Never know, might have to overhaul the transmission on the way to the airport...

I don't know the law but if that is the law, it is the law and our saying "not this time" doesn't change it.
