What just happened in sky over Los Angeles?

About ten minutes ago, Husband in hills behind Brea, between Brea and Chino Hills, spotted in the northwest what looked like something entering the atmosphere. We grabbed binoculars, and it was extremely high altitude, coming in, not going out. Anybody see it? Can probably still spot it further north, as in Pasadena, etc. Grab binocs and look.

Yes, very burnt vegetables. Husband was grateful that he didn't have to eat vegetables tonight. I choked mine down anyway, such a health nut am I. Will probably kack early on the carcinogens of burnt string beans while husband will live to be a robust 110 years old. That's justice for you.

I believe you FInny, but no matter how many people see this item, whatever it is, you will only end up with a series of descriptions sounding more or less like yours, and you will never learn definitively what it is or was. When you ask questions, sometimes the answers are not helpful, but it is because no one knows any more about it than you do. Keep the faith. Thanks for the post.

Depending on the dryness of the air, aircraft can leave long or short contrails. Note in the picture that a big x is left by aircraft flying through moist air, but another aircraft seen in the center is flying in drier air and leaving a much shorter contrail. You can go to sleep knowing that you got excited over nothing more than a plane.
