(KRT) - Arguing that "even Adolf Eichmann got a trial,'' Republican Sen. John McCain said Sunday that the Bush administration must establish a system to try and perhaps free suspected terrorists from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - even if they turn around and attack the United States.

McCain is emerging as a voice of conscience and nuance (Coop comment: [gag!! wretch!!] on the stay-or-go Guantanamo issue. A veteran Navy pilot who spent more than five years as a prisoner of war at Vietnam's "Hanoi Hilton,'' he has repeatedly avoided the issue of whether U.S. troops mistreat the detainees and focused instead on the policies they carry out.
He agreed with former presidential candidate Ross Perot, also a former POW, that reports of abuses at Guantanamo could become an incentive to treat future captives brutally. "We will not have as high a moral ground the next time we are in a conflict and Americans should become prisoners of war,'' he warned. "And it worries me, it keeps me awake at night. It really does.''
But McCain also urged fellow Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., to read Alexander Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago and "apologize to soldiers who are serving, doing the job they are told to do and in a humanitarian fashion.''

Yes, McCain, Eichman was tried, convicted and hung SEVENTEEN YEARS AFTER THE END OF THE WAR! We're still at war here, senator.
McCain is a grade "A" asshole. Yes Eichmann did get a trial for the crimes against the Jews and humanity during WWII in the 1940s. The trial came 15 years after the war ended, when Eichmann was finally arrested in Argentina in 1960.
The jihaddis in GITMO have another 12 years at least by McIdiot's logic.
In 1969, the U.S. government asked Perot to determine what action might be taken to improve the brutal treatment our POW's were receiving in Southeast Asia. He worked on this project for the next four years, placing himself and his family at considerable personal risk, until the prisoners were released in 1972 at the end of the Vietnam War. In recognition of his efforts, Perot received the Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the highest civilian award presented by the Department of Defense...
THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT. IF MCCAIN SAID THIS HE IS NO BETTER THAN TURBIN.
Yes by all means let's let these Islamofascist loose so they can attack us yet again. and this guy wants to be Pres.
Gee, there is something worse than decapititaion?
Ah, I don't think so.
FYI, my post above.
snicker...
Yes, but based on the info in his bio (I didn't realize his intimate involvement with the POW issue), it's an understandable mistake.
Zell doesn't attack the President and therefore is of no use to the MSM.
Perot was never, ever a POW. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1953, served on a couple of ships and was discharged in 1957. I don't think many people were taking prisoners during that period.
See post #43 re: Perot and POWs.
Let's not jump to conclusions. Maybe John Kerry spotted Perot in a POW camp in Cambodia during a secret CIA recon mission and then tipped the writer. Kerry did a lot that sort of thing during his twelve tours of duty in Vietnam.
McCain, crappy pilot, crappy senator.
EXACTLY!
So McCain wants to release terrorists to kill more of our soldiers, innocent men women and children for PR?!!
Senator Nitwit, what do you think the PR will be when another plane launches into a building led by a GITMO detainee released to placate crybabies that believe a high AC is comparable to Pol Pot's tortures!
DECLARE YOURSELF ONE OF THE COWARDLY APPEASEMENT TERRORIST SYMPATHEZERS OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY NOW!
YOU, SIR, are NO REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PARTY OF LINCOLN!
RP wasn't a POW. He offered $1 million for the release of POWs and his vp candidate, Stockdale, was an ex POW who was released the same time McCain was.
Apparently
I REALLY HATE STUPID PEOPLE
