Congress Passes Paul Amendment to Reject UN Taxes The Sierra Times

Washington, DC -- The US House of Representatives today unanimously passed legislation introduced by Congressman Ron Paul that ensures no Americans will be forced to pay taxes to the United Nations. Under Paul’s amendment to a State Department funding bill, no US taxpayer dollars may be used to develop, implement, or impose any tax on American citizens to raise revenue for the UN. “The UN continues to build the foundation for global government, and a worldwide tax is the key to their entire agenda,” Paul stated. “This is not hyperbole-- in fact, the UN’s own website is quite open about the organization’s ambitions. The UN has established a system of international laws and international courts; now it needs an enforcement mechanism in the form of an international army. If UN bureaucrats succeed in creating a worldwide tax, they will become totally unaccountable to national governments and their citizens.”

The UN has sought to impose a global tax for years. The infamous “Tobin Tax,” imposed on cross-border currency transactions, has been the dream of UN globalists since the late 1970s. The Tobin Tax was designed to create an independent source of funding for UN bureaucrats, who resent having to rely on what they see as paltry UN dues paid by member nations. A tax on currency exchanges conservatively would raise $300 billion annually, giving the UN an ongoing stream of income.

Political differences thus far have prevented the Tobin Tax from becoming a reality, but many other UN tax proposals have been considered. In 2004 a group of G8 nations agreed to explore a UN tax on airline tickets, which also could raise billions every year. Paul’s legislation sends a strong message to the world that the American people will not accept any form of UN taxation.

Finally, someone is looking out for the interest of the American people! WE have funded this socialist group of dictators far too long. The UN and it's agenda is identical to that of the socialist liberal democrats here in the US!

Get us out of the UN, now, not later!

I'm fairly surprised that this was a unanimous vote -- were there a lot of RAT abstentions?

Aren't we already paying them in the form of taxes anyway?

Does this have anything (or everything for that matter) to do with yesterdays vote on withholding dues?

It wasn't unanimous - it was a voice vote. Now I can't nail my RINO representative for voiting against it because I can't prove he did.

They didn't call a roll call vote because the Dems didnt want to go on record as being against it, and the GOP didn't want to be seen going on record as for it.

I'm also surprised at the unanimity. Is this a positive statement about an important common area of agreement between right and left, or is it the usual...democrats afraid to be seen for who they really are. I'll bet there were lots of dems who believe in such a tax, but were afraid to go on the record.

So voice votes are always recorded as unanimous? Or is this paper trying to give RATs and RINOs credit for something they most likely voted against (or pretended to sleep through)?

Protest Warrior has done some good work. I think that they could do some more good in this fight.

I was speaking more about our "unable to lead" Republican Senators we have in office.

What a great idea.

But, alas, it's a window dressing. A shot, as it were, across the bow of the UN.

Can you imagine the Senate on this?

I think it was in the House, yeah. I'm just trying to figure out how on earth, if this was a voice vote, the result was recorded as 'unanimous' unless this newspaper is just trying to disguise obvious RAT dissent.

There's some real nutcase socialists in the House -- I'd have a really hard time believing that the vote was unanimous unless the entire hard-left socialist contingent abstained from the voice vote...
