DURBIN: 'On one occasion the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold.
On another occasion the air conditioner had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor.'
If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis,
Soviets in their gulags,
While on one of her late fall journeys to the port of Ambartchik in the Arctic Ocean, the Dhzurma got stuck in ice, due to the early arrival of cold weather. Unable to break the ice, she remained in the frozen sea throughout the entire winter with the human cargo of twelve thousand men inside. The Soviets had no means to rescue them and they would not accept offer of the outside help, which came from an American weather station in the Arctic. In this they must have been guided by fear of exposing their slave system to the world. The entire load of men died of cold and starvation while still in her holds. Eventually the Dhzurma was freed from the ice in the spring and so was able to continue in the business for which she was designed.
or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others --
that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.
I suspect the ones that were shackled like that were behavior problems, esp. if they had been there a while. That's what i think.
great post!
Depending on the ship, it was the same for me. Sometimes extremely cold and others extremely hot. No orange glazed chicken for me either except the McCandless had an excellent baker and the cooks could whip up some excellent soups.
Bump
I called Durbin's office today to respectfully request that he take back his comments. The woman that took my call was incredibly rude, crude and socially un-acceptable. She cut me off several times, before I could make my request. I could not belive how rude. I then called Pelosi's office to ask that she say something to the effect that his comments were not acceptable. They were much nicer and in fact apologized for the rudeness of Durbin's office. This is Mrs. Wardaddy, fyi.
We sure as hell didn't have air conditioning when I was in the army. When I went through basic training at Fort Dix we had no heat in the barracks, either. Every night the water froze in the butt cans, and we were only issued one blanket. I usually wore my fatigue jacket to bed, but that wasn't very warm, either.
Does anyone imagine that American POWs in Vietnam had air conditioners in their prisons, when Kerry was in Paris selling them out?
What an effete snob, not to say fool and traitor.
And .. when people were concerned about our military having to wear all that heavy gear in 130 degree weather ..?? I don't recall any of these dems thinking this was torture of our own military.
But .. when it's 100 degrees for a terrorist - that is torture. This is lunacy. The dems have finally fallen over the edge.
As you know, I could have posted much more horrifying pictures of nazi victims, the piles of naked bodies of those who were gassed to death, but I can't bear to see it. I wrote an email yesterday to Durbin telling him he should visit the Holocaust Museum in D.C. because obviously he hadn't. Later yesterday, when defending himself, he said he'd been to Yad VaShem. He must have had his eyes closed.
Michael Medved is going off on the headcase Durbin right now.
A guy who just called into Medved's show said that Durbin's office hung up on him four times. And this guy who called is from Illinois and his son is a Marine. What a winner Durbin is.
Great Post Cinnamon Girl.
At the risk of repeating the others, 100 degrees followed by air conditioning so cold it makes you shiver is a normal day in Dallas Texas. The rap music and pulling out your own hair depend on what part of Dallas you're in.
This is not, repeat not, on the same level as having someone drill holes in your kneecaps.
Whine, whine, whine! Imagine how men would complain if they had to endure menapausal hot flashes and night sweats?
Gitmo or Auschwitz? Can we see a difference?:
The work of Rumsfeld or Eichmann? Is there a way to tell?
Are these two images from Gitmo ... or Dachau?
Did you do any better than Dick Durban? If you got one right, you did.
Their rudeness on the phone tells me they are getting a huge amount of calls and it is getting to them. Durbin is a hypocrit, he can have his free speech but we cannot?
From what I have seen we have offered them everything necessary to live. I do not tolerate extreme heat and then heavy AC either, my (2) toddlers make me pull my hair on occassion, oh no I am living in my own private gitmo!!!
It is good to be reminded that all the relatively comfortable "we pretend to work, and the government pretends to pay us" existences were paid for by the sweat and suffering of slave laborers.
Many leftists point to the comfortable poverty of ordinary Soviet citizens. They admire the close friendships developed among Soviet citizens. But they never think of the slave laborers that paid for that sparse but comfortable lifestyle. They will tell us all day how our comfort is subvsidized by sweatshops in the Third World, but they never look at slavery in the USSR.
