LEBANON Former Ohio Rep. Jean Schmidt edged former Congressman Bob McEwen by 705 votes in the special primary to pick the Republican to represent the party in an Aug. 2 election to replace former Congressman Rob Portman, according to unofficial totals.
Schmidt won with 11,486 votes after results in Hamilton and Clermont counties were added to earlier returns showing McEwen with the lead among 11 GOP candidates running to replace Portman, who is leaving the 2nd Congressional District seat after 12 years to become the U.S. foreign trade representative.... Brinkman finished third with 8,554 votes, Hamilton County Commissioner Pat DeWine fourth with 5,041.

I'm with you 100%! Lets take this fight to them! RINO's is the very reason the socilaist liberals win elections, and their socialist agenda keeps marching forward!

sweet! DeWine definitely got the message. Now we'll see if he wants to rejoin the team.
It may be that DeWine is such a likely loser in 2006 that nothing he does or doesn't do can salvage his seat. Like his neighbor, Santorum, he will be very hard-pressed to be reelected. DeWine, I think, would be reliably conservative, if he thought he could still be reelected in OH. But he knows OH is full of liberals and he feels that he must court as many as he can.
It could also be that your part of Hamilton Co. was not in the district. Hamilton is such a large county that it is likely split between two districts.
The second district includes part of Hamilton county, but not all of it.
why doesn't that surprise me?
when I first moved here I was told (by my then employer) that I didn't live in city limits and so didn't have to pay city taxes. six years later, I found out that my freaking STREET is part in city limits part out.
and I had to pay six years of back taxes (and then go sit on group W bench...).
:-)
Thank you! Voted for Jean Schmidt. She'll be running against an Iraq war vet democrat. SHould be an interesting race.
I have pledged money to whoever will run against Snowe in a primary. There are hundreds if notthousands of grass roots republicans who will neither vote for nor work on any Snowe/Collins campaign.
The divas survive on check book republicans and 'independent' (read democrat) voters here.
I supported Schundler in the PRNJ so I know what it means to be a conservative in Liberal La La Land. God Bless you for your will to continue the fight. I too will donate to anyone reasonable who opposes Snowe and Collins in their primaries.
Chickens coming home to roost?
Schmidt is a moderate, claiming to be a Conservative. Pat DeWine is a non-Conservative, claiming to be a Conservative. He lost ground throughout the race because he insisted on smearing the legitimate Conservatives (Brinkman and McEwen). DeWine's father, who is a moderate Republican Senator was a non-factor, except that he raised an enormous amount of money for his son. Since Pat used it to make himself look bad, I suppose you can say to that extent he was a factor.
The result is very much of a mixed bag. Pat DeWine ran a dispicable campaign and got what he deserved. In it, he ran smears that hurt better men, who still greatly out-polled Pat. I have never seen a candidate supported by the Hamilton County Republican organization poll only 12% of the vote--not in any contest in my lifetime. This was no slap at the Senator, but there are some very, very red, local faces.
To be fair, I bet the vast majority of the population views Schmidt as a solid Republican, possibly even "extreme right", which won't necessarily hurt her in this district. The one tax vote would be her only blemish
As for Brinkman, many are sick of his vicious attacks on the public schools, where his group has spread lies and distortions to work against school tax levies.
And finally, about DeWine - we all may want to think his plummet was because of his dad, and that may have cost him some - but he really did run a filthy campaign and having outspent his competition 3-1 or more, you heard his filth constantly. And for the values voters, there still is the fact that he had an affair with a lobbyist and left his wife, and still voted for the lobbyist's positions (1 vote margin in favor of the lobbyist in the end).. and seeing him campaign and show off his young (5 and under) children was outright nauseating.

I ain't toleratin' no stinkin' compromise!!!!
Just wanted to see if you have accepted the reality that Steve Chabot is your representative, since you seemed not to believe that a few months ago.
