I'm posting this at RonDog's request, and to give a quick update on a successful FReep at SaMo City College -- the gang is still "networking" at the after-party, so photos should follow!
Kudos to RonDog for organizing 20+ FReepers, plus some outstanding SaMo College Republicans who met at the corner of 16th and Pico in support of Governor Ahhnold, and to help counter the cancer from A.N.S.W.E.R. We had tons of media exposure -- all of the local TV stations, radio, and print outlets were there, and many interviewed folks from our side. We should see some of this on the local news tonight. The "alternative" press was out in force, and interviews were given, but you could tell that their hearts weren't in it!
We did have some attention from the smelly opposition, but nothing untoward occured, which is always good.
The bad guys were broken up into two groups, a block to the east of our location. The Mechistas and Answer commies had their little Klatch, and the Union thugs had a separate gathering.
My own little anecdote: as I was approaching our corner (late, per usual), a young woman warned me to "be careful, there's fascists on the corner". When I arrived at the corner, I didn't see any of those, just a bunch of nice people holding "go Arnold" signs. So, she was either engaging in hyperbole, or (more likely) is an example of the unhinged left.
Following the festivities on the street, we repaired to a local eatery, and were joined by the college Republicans. According to their report, no major nonsense occured during Arnold's speech, though a few members of the "progressive alliance" walked out, and some people made low-level noise to ruin the event for the rest of the people there.
Hoping others will fill in.
"...It seems rather churlish to stage a political protest at a non-political event like this college graduation.permalink on Captain's Quarters blogIt hijacks an evening that should have focused on the graduates, instead of some selfish and self-serving political opponents of the Governator. But if they wanted to protest, they should have observed enough decorum to allow Arnold to at least be heard by the audience in attendance.
Actions like this point out a political narcissism and absolutism that reveal nothing but the immaturity of Arnold's opposition." - Captain Ed
It was great FReeping with YOU, too!I got your "We (heart) Arnold" signs, and a part of your hands - with the green sleeves, in my post 49 (above.)
Make that post 59.
Would that be C.A.N.S.W.E.R.?
Hi again Ron,
It's too bad we didn't get much coverage in the L.A. Times.
There was a cluster of 3 community college faculty (myself included) who spoke with the L.A. Times reporter, the Asian guy, AT LENGTH - for at least 20 mins. We carefully itemized in a detailed fashion a very long "laundry list" of complaints about fiscal abuses and tenure-related problems with CA Education, esp. at community colleges like SMC. We explained pretty exhaustively WHY the Governor's reforms are so critical, at this time. We gave him some good quotes and even HE admitted they were "good ones." So we were REALLY HOPING the Times would at least MENTION the reasons WHY we were there, supporting Arnold: We aren't just following "Arnold the Movie Star" around, like a bunch of idiot Michael Jackson fanatics - we believe EDUCATION REFORMS ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!
The LA Times pooped out on us -- and pooped out on Free Republic since (when numerous reporters asked, "How did you find out about this rally?") most said they "saw it mentioned on Free Republic.com."
So, we expected to "get some ink" for FR as well.
Anyway, thanks for a great event. Hey, I still owe you a dollar for those quarters for my parkingh meter! I will donate it to FR... if it's OK with you! :)

"question the impartiality of the newspaper's staff."
BWHAHAHAHA! After you saw the editor protesting Arnold....there is no question about their impartiality.
Nice meeting you Ben & hope you all had fun last night at the bar!
RonDog,

To everyone from last night: What an amazing freep with ton's of coverage!!! You are all awesome!!! Keep up the great work!
"When Clinton came he got out and shook hands," she said. "He was so cute. But Republicans have to hide behind dark windows."
When folks are screaming & throwing things at their vehicles, people tend not to want to get out and have a chat.

"I think Gov. Schwarzenegger is doing an excellent job as Governor. That was the bite on one of the channels and similar of the others. He is the perfect person to be here to represent education.
He wants to do what is right for our children."

In my abridged version I don't see it, but I'll bet it's in the comprehensive edition.
Good job....I was with you, in spirit.
(Ahhh, reminds me of those heady political days during my college time. I miss confronting those lazy poltical thinkers and mindless democratic parroting hacks.)
I fear that todays labor union's and college leaders are very much like the "deadwood" and Gray Davis's in Sacramento that need to be confronted and moved out. igs at a trough!
Some in SM thought Freepers were "facists"...how when we want the electorate to vote on matters that effect all of us. That's just idiotic Liberal partisan hyperbole! It's laugable.
"Dear Editor:
I wish to thank the reporters at The Lookout News for covering this neglected area of news (feminist misandry) as it pertains to life at Santa Monica College, and beyond. I offer just a couple of corrections for clarity:
#1 I specifically said I was "protesting the hypocrisy of the Instructors in the Liberal Science group (who have vilified and bashed males on SMC's campus for years)."
#2 I showed an old business card (retired written across the face) with my name correctly spelled "Blumhorst."
Most importantly (#1), I was not protesting "female faculty members" as your story incorrectly states. That is neither my goal (mission), nor the goal of the National Coalition of Free Men, www.NCFMLA.org , the group I am affiliated with. The truth is there are male SMC instructors, who join in the misandrist indoctrination of students through Santa Monica College's Liberal Science courses, who do as much harm as any female faculty members. One does not have to be female to be a feminist ideologue. Conversely, one does not have to be male to be a member of the National Coalition of Free Men, a group that believes in equal rights, equal justice, and equal protection for all (not just one gender as the feminist's do).
Sincerely, Ray Blumhorst
Even though NCFMLA is officially a non-partisan men's issues group, I personally and prominently displayed a (Welcome Back Arnold) button on the top right front of my shirt during the interview (and all day). It was given to me by the excellent campus adviser of SMC Republicans.
...and the 5% who were, came from the tax-payer funded Liberal Science group (Political Science, Sociology, Women's Studies, etc.) housed in that dark green bldg. on the South East corner of the campus (concentrated prejudice & hypocrisy).
I wonder how Bruce Smith was able to get such and accurate count of SMC's liberal propagandists?
Amazingly, Tom Donner, Acting SMC President thanked Governor Schwarzenegger for his support of Santa Monica College at the graduation, and he has previously publically acknowledged that the Governor has been supportive of education and Santa Monica College.
He's a fish swimming against the tide in the liberal, polluted, political waters of Santa Monica College.
The local college paper (in one article) accused him of being [GHAST!], a REPUBLICAN. Dr. Donner is a brilliant man, and in his close to the vest style has never stated his party affiliation, but Republican is a good guess I'd say.
Looks like Helen Hunt showed up again! ;o)
Great job guys!
Sorry to have missed the fun, but I'm here suffering the heat on the east coast.
Well, I was there, and outside the event. They definitely had numbers on us, but they certainly did not protest without very, very vigorous opposition to their liberal messages.
Liberal Santa Monica has definitely not seen the last of efforts to present all the facts, and not just the propaganda opinions of liberal ideologues lost in the swill of their inane drivel.
Great job with your truck Roy!!! It looked great!
Thanks for all you do,
Edee
