After Action Report Schwarzenegger at Santa Monica College

I'm posting this at RonDog's request, and to give a quick update on a successful FReep at SaMo City College -- the gang is still "networking" at the after-party, so photos should follow!

Kudos to RonDog for organizing 20+ FReepers, plus some outstanding SaMo College Republicans who met at the corner of 16th and Pico in support of Governor Ahhnold, and to help counter the cancer from A.N.S.W.E.R. We had tons of media exposure -- all of the local TV stations, radio, and print outlets were there, and many interviewed folks from our side. We should see some of this on the local news tonight. The "alternative" press was out in force, and interviews were given, but you could tell that their hearts weren't in it!

We did have some attention from the smelly opposition, but nothing untoward occured, which is always good.

The bad guys were broken up into two groups, a block to the east of our location. The Mechistas and Answer commies had their little Klatch, and the Union thugs had a separate gathering.

My own little anecdote: as I was approaching our corner (late, per usual), a young woman warned me to "be careful, there's fascists on the corner". When I arrived at the corner, I didn't see any of those, just a bunch of nice people holding "go Arnold" signs. So, she was either engaging in hyperbole, or (more likely) is an example of the unhinged left.

Following the festivities on the street, we repaired to a local eatery, and were joined by the college Republicans. According to their report, no major nonsense occured during Arnold's speech, though a few members of the "progressive alliance" walked out, and some people made low-level noise to ruin the event for the rest of the people there.

Hoping others will fill in.

Graduation protest overstepped bounds
THE protesters who disrupted the graduation ceremonies at Santa Monica College on Tuesday had every right to voice their displeasure with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was delivering the commencement speech.

But that doesn't mean it was morally right to ruin the special day of 600 graduates. In their zeal to humiliate the governor by shouting down his every word during the speech, protesters effectively disrespected the entire graduating class of the community college.

Schwarzenegger, an alum of the college, was speaking not about the political policies that have his detractors steaming. He was speaking - or trying to - about his experience as a student 30 years ago, a story that would no doubt have been meaningful to a good many of the college's students who also are immigrants.

This was no doubt a big day for the students who were receiving two-year degrees. It was a shame that what should have been a memorable and emotional day turned into a political spectacle that overstepped the boundaries of civil discourse.

The disruption was primarily from OFF-CAMPUS radicals, NOT from students.

Governor dismisses protest at Santa Monica college

Thursday, June 16, 2005

(06-16) 18:58 PDT SACRAMENTO, (AP) --

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, responding publicly for the first time to the protesters who heckled him at a commencement speech, said he believes most students were attentive and appreciated his words.

Schwarzenegger dismissed the jeers and catcalls he endured during his speech Tuesday to about 600 graduates at Santa Monica College, telling Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly that the protesters were inspired by unions who oppose his November special election.

"It was very clear that there was a difference between the students who very much appreciated my speech, and they were sitting there and giving me a standing ovation, and then 100 people in the background, all the way up to the right of the bleachers. They were organized by the public employees' union," Schwarzenegger said Thursday on O'Reilly's show.

"So these were all union people that were organizing this demonstration," he said. "It is not the ordinary people out there. It was not the students that were protesting. The students had great respect and they enjoyed my speech."

That's what Bill O'Reilly and Ahnold said on the Factor. The unions brought in their thugs and ANSWER was another thugfactory. At least Arnold recognized that.

Sorry folks, Arnold was just trying to be nice to his old alma mater when he said that. Once again, the Liberal Science dept. Instructors had been working overtime for weeks to get as many of their indoctrinees (students) as possible involved in this protest, and a significant number were students. The rest were, as stated, a.n.s.w.e.r. and the unions.

I think the unions and leftists on some level hope that all conservatives will pull their children out of public schools...All those trouble making parents who object to their children being indoctrinated into homosexual lifestyles, leftism, and such, will be out of their hair. They'll be free to further modify the curriculum in any way they choose, without objection.

They already do so with impunity anyway. And with the unionized teachers and admin., nobody ever gets fired. It's a full-employment program for every loser whacko with a teaching certificate and license to indoctrinate entire generations into the leftist-homo worldview. Any parent who is aware of what is happening who still sends his children to government schools is part of the problem, and stands guilty of helping to propagate a lost generation.

As a former teacher I must say that most textbooks are not worth the money that they cost.

They don't want to lose their change to indoctrine middle-class kids. They know that these are the future tax-payers. A private school education might cause them to vote down bond proposals.

I'm sure you're right. The proof is in what our kids don't know after they graduate.

That was some extraordinarily bad writing.
