ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A University of New Mexico Chicano Studies professor predicts a new, sovereign Hispanic nation within the century, taking in the Southwest and several northern states of Mexico.
Charles Truxillo suggests the Republica del Norte, the Republic of the North, is an inevitability.
He envisions it encompassing all of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southern Colorado, plus the northern tier of Mexican states: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.
Along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border there is a growing fusion, a reviving of connections, Truxillo said. Southwest Chicanos and Norteño Mexicanos are becoming one people again.
Truxillo, 47, has said the new country should be brought into being by any means necessary, but recently said it was unlikely to be formed by civil war. Instead, its creation will be accomplished by the electoral pressure of the future majority Hispanic population in the region, he said.

Sadly enough, times have changed.
It has nothing to do with maintaining peace, but rather getting rid of a major embarassment to the rest of the country.
Not if we can help it.
They couldn't afford to have California. California has already taken the poison pill called socialism that makes them undesirable for any hostile takeover.
They already have a homeland...... it is called [old] mexico, plus centeral & south amreica to boot. They do not need more!
It's the way the world works. You can work with it or whine about it. Obviously you prefer the latter.
I don't think that will happen, but it does demonstrate just how important it is that we dismantle the welfare state. Otherwise we will get balkanized hispanics in the US. If we dismantle the welfare state they will have no choice but to succeed as Americans.
embarassment to the rest of the country.
Maybe you VA hillbillies might want to think that
statement over again
So, when these (eventually) majority Hispanic states vote to leave the Union, do we have another Civil War. And, if not, why?
No. Don't be a cheese-eating surrender monkey.
"Maybe you VA hillbillies might want to think that
statement over again"
OK, I'm actually from Massachusetts, so I am well acquainted with being embarassed about your state. Frankly I think we should give MA to someone as well (good riddance).
The hillbilly comment shows your complete ignorance.
I see an area dominated demographically by Latinos in the furure, but I don't see them ceding to either create a new nation or meld back into Mexico. Neither Aztlan nor Mexico can take care of the people like the USA. I think this prof is dreaming.
Or go into politics and continue to feed off the taxpayer while STILL making their demands.
The hillbilly comment shows your complete ignorance
That is what my NY, NJ, Ohio and CA relatives call
VA folks.
Not all of CA is like LA which is a bunch of small
towns hooked together by freeways or small town Frisco
which doesn't even have a million pop.
That is why I am in San Diego, home of the largerst
amount of Navy and Marines in the US Several of my
San Diego relatives have been in Iraq i & 2 tours.
Yup. And in the case of the Gadsden Purchase, bought it fair and square, as well.
The way I see it is that California is unlivable for a number of reasons. That is why I said it was addition by subtraction.
I doubt there are any hillbilles in Richmond, Virginia Beach, Newport News, etc.
I doubt there are any hillbilles in Richmond
That is exactly why you can't judge any state because
a couple of cities are trash holes.
I live 15 miles from the Mexican border and my neighbors
are from the East coast or from Europe. Many living
in 1 to 2 million dollar condos, work hard and pay taxes.
Not every other person here is Mexican.
"I agree with the prof. Demographics are the future."
True - but demographics can be changed by cold steel, amigo.
It wouldn't surprise me . . . the way things are going.
