Professor Predicts 'Hispanic Homeland'

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A University of New Mexico Chicano Studies professor predicts a new, sovereign Hispanic nation within the century, taking in the Southwest and several northern states of Mexico.

Charles Truxillo suggests the “Republica del Norte,” the Republic of the North, is “an inevitability.”

He envisions it encompassing all of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southern Colorado, plus the northern tier of Mexican states: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.

Along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border “there is a growing fusion, a reviving of connections,” Truxillo said. “Southwest Chicanos and Norteño Mexicanos are becoming one people again.”

Truxillo, 47, has said the new country should be brought into being “by any means necessary,” but recently said it was unlikely to be formed by civil war. Instead, its creation will be accomplished by the electoral pressure of the future majority Hispanic population in the region, he said.

I concur. Any attempt to do this would result in another Civil War. The U.S. people may no longer have the stomach to protect their borders, but redrawing them? Won't happen.

Granted he may well be as you so eloquently state "a asshole " but he is doing what the current resident of the White House wants as demonstrated by his adamant refusal to do anything useful to regain control of the borders of this nation.

Well, Mr. Chicano Studies Man, I predict war or severely hostile tension with Mexico. Guess who is going to win in either event (the USA).

Sounds exactly the same as the "Palestinian Homeland" if you ask me.

Because America will willingly give up territory.....

My ancestors tried that back in the 1860's and the governments response was to commit war crimes against the people of their independent nation

You think the Feds are gonna treat this idea any more gently.

Given the events in California today, I say give it to them. No big loss. (apologies to CA Freepers)

I'm in favor of giving them California. That would be addition by subtraction.

Silly nonsense. If Latinos wanted to recreate Mexico, they'd stay in Mexico. The vast majority of Latinos who become citizens do so because they want to be Americans. Those in the minority who don't want citizenship just want to make money and go back. The Aztlan type malcontents are a fringe and give little signs that they'll ever be anything but.

While the U.S. will certainly become more Hispanic demographically, the idea that it will be taken over politically is a bit ridiculous. People should not get too paranoid about this. Ideally, the blending of cultures, which is constant, will make a stronger nation in the long run.

Another KOOK looking for 15 minutes of fame.

He better watch out or some of the MS 13 might take him out in a drive by.

A separate Mexican country would devastate the drug barons.

[[Ideally, the blending of cultures, which is constant, will make a stronger nation in the long run.]]

Why dont you move to Mexico then and blend YOUR culture with theirs if it is such a great thing?

He is probably right, with the exception of Texas(which may end up as part of a sovereign American nation).
