Rapid expanse of gas?
"traveling from Chechnya " makes it highly likely to have been a terror attack.

Or it could be that yet another poorly-built, poorly-maintained Russian locomotive exploded all by itself with no outside help. They do tend to do that from time to time...
two children injured per FNC.

MOSCOW (AP) - A passenger train traveling from Chechnya to Moscow derailed on Sunday morning, injuring 10 people, emergency officials said. Russian news agencies had initially reported that an explosion hit the train, and they noted that the incident occurred on a national holiday, Day of Russia. Many Chechen rebel attacks have been timed for significant Russian holidays.
However, citing authorities in the Moscow region, where the incident occurred, the ITAR-Tass and Interfax news agencies later reported that a preliminary investigation indicated a technical cause.
ITAR-Tass quoted regional deputy governor Alexei Panteleyev as saying that "at first glance, one can say that the cause of the incident was a technical accident, which resulted in the connection between the locomotive and the rest of the train coming undone."
Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov said 10 people were injured. Two children were among the injured, Interfax reported. The crash occurred about 90 miles south of Moscow.
Beltsov said that two cars left the rails and five were left leaning at an angle. Interfax said the train was traveling at a slow speed, preventing more injuries.

May they bought some bunk railroad management software along with that mischievous gas pipeline software some years ago.....

Prayers to the good people on the train.
I have ridden the rails in Russia literally dozens of times and well over 15,000 miles. Very rarely do their trains (which function remarkably well in 95 degree heat down to 45 below zero, in my experience) simply "malfunction" so seriously.
I'm waiting for better reporting and a full FSB investigation before I will just buy into any particular conclusion prematurely.

Let me guess who was behind this....

Indeed. Industrial or quality control issues should always be examined after a disaster in the CIS. Check out James Oberg's Testing the Limits of Glasnost-Uncovering Soviet Disasters. A very eye opening book from about 15 years ago..
Thanks for the ping Lijahsbubbe. Just heard this on Fox News.
