More in Congress want Iraq exit strategy
Boston Globe ^

Faced with plummeting public support for the war in Iraq, a growing number of members of Congress are reevaluating the reasons for the invasion and demanding the Bush administration produce a plan for withdrawing US troops.A bipartisan group of House members is drafting a resolution that calls on the administration to present a strategy for getting the United States out of Iraq, reflecting an increasing restlessness about the war in a chamber that 2 1/2 years ago voted overwhelmingly to support the use of force in Iraq.

The House International Relations Committee on Thursday approved a similar proposal, 32 to 9, with strong bipartisan support. Sponsored by Representative Joseph Crowley, a New York Democrat who voted to authorize force in Iraq in 2002, the proposal represents the first time a congressional committee has moved to demand steps be taken so that US troops can start coming home.

More than 100 Democrats -- including 11 who voted for the war resolution -- have signed onto a letter to President Bush requesting an explanation of the so-called Downing Street memo, a British document that charges the administration planned to go to war even without hard evidence of the presence of weapons of mass destruction. Representative Walter Jones of North Carolina, a conservative Republican who voted to authorize force, said his district is growing weary of a war that has cost the lives of more than 1,600 US troops and left more than 12,000 wounded.

Jones said he felt misled by the administration on the reasons for the war because no weapons of mass destruction have been found. ''If I knew [then] what I knew today, I would not have voted for the resolution," Jones said.

The only real iraq exit strategy is to win the war on terror in iraq and bring stability there.

1. 100 Democrats...boy, color me surprised.

2. Representative Jones, you disgust me. You along with the rest of the world "knew" that Saddam had WMD's. If the report is accurate, you are an opportunistic worm.

The enemy within is as dangerous as islam, i.e., liberals and liberal media. They're bunch of short-sighted cowards. Wish we could keep "W" for 10 years and get the job done!

Yada, yada, yada.

Let's keep in mind that this is a Boston Globe propaganda piece. Public support for Bush is NOT "plummeting." Quite the opposite.

That is the best exit strategy. I wonder if the Dims have something else in mind besides winning.

"a British document that charges the administration planned to go to war even without hard evidence of the presence of weapons of mass destruction. "

Such spin. The "memo" used the word "fixed" which assuming it's not negative, could indicate that the "fixing" was the PR rationale focus on WMD among factors. Wolfowitz said as much.

Joe Wilson has much to do with this "lied about WMD" meme. In January 2003 the anti-Bush/Blair forces decided to push the "exaggerated intel" memes, coming from leaks from insiders who, BTW, all thought Iraq had WMD's. Slam dunk, so to say. For Bush they focused on the nuclear statement in his State of the Union, Wilson pushing that one. Wilson also pushed his nuclear "proof" during the British Dodgy Dossier "scandal", though there the bigger story was the BBC story that an insider challenged the WMD's and the 45 minute to ready them claim, though that insider really said WMDs were there but thought they would take longer to get ready.

Fact is for a decade intel across the world was wrong.

More in Congress want Iraq exit strategy

Also known as a losing strategy. It -- the exit strategy -- was invented by traitorous rats after Viet Nam to ensure America would lose all its future wars.

You are precisely right. The Boston Globe is, as usual, shilling for the geopolitical morons (Democrats) in Congress. Telling the enemy the schedule on which your troops are pulling out is giving the enemy a ready-made plan of how and when to kill our soldiers.

One can expect Democrats in Congress, and editors in most of the MSM, to be this self-destructive and stupid. We must hope that a majority of Congress, and a majority of the people, will not be this stupid.

"And no thanks to our media."

Exactly, why is anyone surprised that the Boston Globe would publish an article like this? FYI, there are 435 members of the House of Representatives. 100 Democrats and 5-10 unnamed Republicans aren't much of a threat. I would even speculate that some of the 100 had their arms twisted and conceded for the "effort to hate Bush". These people are a Vast Left Wing Minority and most of us see right through them. We're gonna love the mid-terms, their minority is shrinking and will soon be completely benign.

Well, bear in mind that a 32-9 vote on the House International Relations Committee means that at least 10 Republicans are with the Dems just on that committee alone.. Walter Jones isn't on the Int. Rel. Committee so make that at least 11.

Wait a minute! They are worried about an exit strategy for Iraq? Whatever happened to the exit strategy from Bosnia??? As far as I know, we still have troops in Bosnia and they were supposed to be back in the good ol' USofA before Christmas of 1996. Do you think the timing is a little off?
