"That said, the guilty one is the one who killed this beautiful child. Not the parents and not the chaperones."

True.....only the murderer is guilty of murder...

However -- lots of folks contributed to the scenario that resulted in murder..
If any one of those folks had acted differently, the murder wouldn't have ocurred as it did...

Too many of the "safeguards" that should have been in place ---- failed, and a young girl died.

You do recall the blonde American tourist woman who was all over the talk shows almost giddy about how one of the arrested black men tried to hit on her at the hotel? I almost lost it with disgust for her.

The blacks in Aruba got behind these two, and so did alot of us on FR. We smelled a frame up. Thank God this case got the press it did, or these two innocent men could have been convicted.

whether Perfect or Imperfect we are ALL responsible for our OWN ACTIONS!!!

So. If you are standing in line at a Wendy's and some girl cuts in front you and you say, "Excuse me, the line starts behind me." Her boyfriend overhears this. He's 6 inches taller and 50 punds heavier and he beats the crap out of you, which action are you responsible for that got you in the ambulance?

But you're right about the chaperones! Why bother at all if they're not going to chaperone the kids?

Even though they called themselves chaperones they were later called enablers, facilitators.

Ah, the old “No means no.” Sorry, but phrased that way I think it is bad advice.

It sounds too much like this: "As a young male your sexuality makes you so stupid that you probably believe it is OK to rape women. Well, it is not OK, because as your moral superior I say it is not OK."

Instead, try: “If a woman tells you to stop, and you don’t, you increase the risk that you will be publicly accused of rape. The accusation alone may be enough to ruin your life, even if she consented in every way but verbally.”

The latter appeals to a young man’s self interest. It is less patronizing than “No means no,” and doesn’t invite his retaliation against parental authority. Besides, experience will eventually teach him that “no” does not always mean “no,” just as “I really want to” doesn’t always mean what it says.

Also, while we’re at it, how about pointing out to young women that they shouldn’t say “no” unless they actually mean it? “Don’t say ‘no’ to increase the sexual tension, and don’t say ‘no’ to avoid accepting responsibility for your own sexuality. Say ‘yes’ and mean it, or say ‘no’ and mean it. Anything else is manipulative.”

if she was FIVE??? please... now you are being intentionally ignorant... we are talking about a specific case here and you want to play silly "what if she was 5" games... if she were FIVE i hope she'd be with her parents but playing what if, maybe she was a stow away or something...

you are losing and can't argue your point honestly so i'm done with you, but thanks for playing

At my house, common sense was taught & learned from the time they could walk.

Same for me & my siblings.

Grandsons, same.

Can't be taught once they reach schoolage.

Today, most teachers couldn't teach it anyway, b/c they don't know how.

They have little common sense.

My grandsons attend private Christian Schools, where there is common sense.

She was of age. She was an adult in the eyes of the law. Chaperones were an effort to make things safer, but no guarantee of safety.

To the family and friends, my heartfelt condolences. What a senseless end to a promising life.

Dang---you are a mean MOM!! LOL

Having a nine year old pay for a dried out sandwich!!! I never thought of that, but since both of my kids have made it to their late 20's, married, with a child and good job... never in jail, I feel do darn LUCKY!!!

My kids must have been born with common sense, because there were a lot of times, that I was working and not paying as close of attention as I should...but, thanks to God, they made it.

I am not blaming these friends, but it did remind me of the possibility that Natalee could have been placed in a situation without any knowledge on her part. There are so many possible scenarios.

Was she a loner by nature? Did she date much in high school? Did she have a serious romance in high school? Someone, I am sure is looking into these questions (hope so anyway).

Right now I do not believe much of what is reported. Even by FOX--so much contradictory info has come out. We do not know the whole story.

Girls not only need to be taught how dangerous men could be, but also to watch their drinks.

where were the tears from these friends?

Yeah, I tell ya, that one girl..... really astounded me.

Like, 'gee! I'm glad I don't have to stumble over her anymore.'

She wasn't gleeful b/c she was nervous in front of the camera. I can tell the diff.

They were misnamed as chaperones, so everyone says. Never were meant to do any of the things you suggest, apparently, but were there just to be helpful in case the graduates asked for help with anything.

This is something I hope the parents, not just Natalee's parents bue many of the parents get cleared up in the next few weeks or months. Just exactly what did these chaperones infer they were going for? What did these chaperones call themselves to the parents? The parents probably know the definition of C-h-a-p-e-r-o-n-e.

Were I the parent and been told that 7 adults were going as chaperones, I would take that to mean that the chaperones would be keeping an eye open to ensure the safety of the kids. If the chaperones weren't going for that reason then why even bother bringing up their presence? At 17 and 18 these graduates should know that if you lose your traveler's checks go to the embassy, or go to the local police.

the KILLERS should BURN... that shouldn't stop us from using her bad judgement as a LEARNING TOOL for others... does it???
even if it only saves one life... isn't that what they say???
i can pray for her soul and still acknowledge she was wrong.

No, sir. You said that we are all responsible for our own actions.

I simply asked at what age does this responsibilty start.

Your reply was "Before she left the country." You know that that answer is insufficient.

I am still awaiting your answer.

At what age does everyone become responsible for their own actions?

You have not answered and now you are hiding behind the old, "I don't want to play anymore" routine because you have been outed and have no plausible answer. :-)
