It isn't a question of compassion. Like almost every other crime, it was dumb and ugly. The seeming lack of compassion is a way to extract some miniscule lesson from tragedy.

I agree about the chaperones. I started griping about those early on, but most people informed me that chaperones weren't there to chaperone. (Then why are they there? I still don't understand that.)

I was one of about 15 (so called) chaperones of around 150 high school band members on a 4 day trip from Dallas to Tampa a couple of years ago.

I had a miserable time but was happy I was there because it was only myself and another mother out of the 15 that actually chaperoned. I was so pissed at the other adults that were there because it appeared they were there only to party and enjoy themselves among themselves and let the teens go wild.

We stayed at a hotel that had a bar in the lobby (with all kinds of rif raf floating in and out of the bar), 2 stairwells at each end of the builiding, and a few rough and rowdy teenagers (girls & boys) who were back and forth from the lobby, in the stairwells, etc..I think that I got only 4 hours sleep out of 4 day trip.

However I did learn that I would not trust my daughter to go anywhere with those so-called chaperones.

And if tox results show she was slipped something would getting in a car with 3 men still be "bad judgement?"

maybe if they could prove she was slipped the micky BEFORE she got in the car and not AFTER she got in the car... but that's not possible

The guy is kind of prone to hyping himself and movie star clients, but his books are solid.

Many of them didn't have enough sense to come in out of the rain.....

Exactly.

And common sense can save one's life.

Not scores on exams.

There has been one girl that has been interviewed on Fox a few times...one of the friends of Natalee--

The first time I saw her, she had on a spaghetti strapped dress that had a deep v-neck and she looked like she had just stepped out of a salon, with hair and make-up done perfectly...

When I saw her, my first thought was, "This doesn't look like a friend that has possible lost her friend to a horrible murder...she looks like she is thinking, oh, boy, I am on TV!!!!!"

And it goes without saying that when you were 17 you made absolutely all the correct decisions 100% of the time, right?

Even to this point in your life you STILL have made all the correct decisions 100% of the time, right?

It must be wonderful to be perfect.

So very sad. I found out yesterday her grandmother lives here in Pine Bluff.

I didn't realize she'd packed up and was ready to meet the group to head home in the morning. Sounds like she planned to party all night.

The crime rate on Aruba is unbelievably low. This has been widely reported. We don't know when she met these guys. She may have felt that she knew them.

I have no way of explaining why she went with them. We have no way of knowing what happened other than she was killed. Working with 20/20 hindsight, while it may make us feel much more sensible, and it may make us feel that we have prepared our kids so much better than she was prepared, simply is indulging in mental masturbation.

An 18 yr old girl was murdered by a coldblooded killer. That's the net result. Feeling better about ourselves somehow doesn't assuage the waste.

Back in the early '70's kids were taught to keep their drinks covered w/one hand at all times.

Never leave your drink and pick it up again.

I don't know....but a Google search turned up the following:

What is the legal drinking age in Aruba?

Author: Nick, on vacation with family Last response: Sat Jun 11 13:11:11 2005
I don't know the LEGAL drinking age in Aruba, but a Google search turned up the following:

-------

How strictly do they enforce the legal age? Do the resorts check as closely as the night clubs? Our family has been vacationing in Cancun. Is Aruba comparable on this subject? Thanks

Author: Jess

Legal age is 18 but, it doesn't seem like they check for ID at most places.

Author: Brittany

They don't check ID's much.I've been there 6 times and they served me at age 17.

Author: John

I was told the legal age is 18, but I've seen kids drinking up and down the beach at different hotels, that I'd be surprised if they have a driver's licence.

Author: Ronnie

Actually there is no law against driving and drinking either. Just be careful

Author: Bradon

But 18 is the legal driniking age correct

Author: bob

what is the legal drinking age in jamaica

Author: colleen

ive been to jamaica and they dont seem to check for any ID's ive seen 15 year olds drink there

Since the group was only there for a week, I think it's safe to assume she knew him for less than a week.

If permissive Americans could break through the post-Freudian haze, they would see sex as essentially idiotic and destructive, save in the context of marriage.

Not if you're doing it right. :)
