There is one part of [McCain's] record, however, that the press almost never asks him about. They never ask why this decorated navy pilot and Vietnam P.O.W. has spent so much of his time and energy as a senator pushing through legislation to block the release of information about American P.O.W.'s and M.I.A.'s who are still not accounted for.

Most of us who flew have an innate respect for the suffering and hardship experienced by prisoners, particularly pilots and air crews of those times who risked it all on each sortie.
With that in mind, it is difficult, at least for me, to criticize his ongoing political performance even though I recognize its total self orientation.
With the foregoing in mind, I prefer to think of Senator McCain as one who by his actions is simply insane.....a loose and dangerous canon ramming back and forth across our American decks.
First post here is a village voice column and you don't reply to questions?
No kidding. The Voice??: "Working hand in hand with the Pentagon and the intelligence community, McCain has kept hidden critical documents about a body of prisoners who were alive but secretly held back by Hanoi when the war ended as bargaining fuel for war reparations. They were never returned. They are now merely listed as either dead or missing in action. Seven successive presidents, starting with Richard Nixon, have privately endorsed this cover-up"
yeah, hidden documents but the voice knows the contents, and seven presidents covered it up, but the voice knows what they knew. ok.
I think in McCains case-in his fahsion he has explained it.
He refuses to look at or reflect upon that period of time .Determined never to look back .perhaps th eonly way he could make peace with what happened? I don't know if
Mr.Denton ever mentioned McCain. But I do know McCain is --as with most military men--better at bein gled than they are at being political leaders.I respect McCains service. But I abhor most everything I've read about his lousey Politics.
I am sorry. I forgot you on post #21,
S-G
They don't ask him much about his political sponsor, Arizona stringpuller Kemper Marley, either. Of course the last reporter who got too close to Marley's connections got blown up.
I love your tagline. I keep a picture of him posted in my den.
If, and that's a slim if, McCain is the Pubbie nominee in 2008, The Keating Five scandal will be front page news.
Texas Tech has a Vietnam Project that discusses the MIA/POW issue. I remember reading some of the material after the Swiftboat Vet book came out. Quite enlightening. Seems more geared toward fact finding than politics.
This was interesting:

But .. at the time .. there was no internet, no right-wing media, no talk radio. Today .. with all of the McCain treachery in the senate .. this thing might finally get some legs.
I just personally believe McCain and Kerry know a whole lot they're not telling. And .. I've wondered for a long time that if this is what bonds their relationship.

I seriously question the motives of a brand new member who would post a hit piece from the Village Voice and from a left wing nut job like Sydney H. Schanberg.
Not many McCain supporters here but he doesn't rate this scurrilous attack on his war record and patriotism.
New member "blonkey has yet to reply to any question put to him.
I concur with you 100%.
To Sidney Schanberg: have you made it up to Dith Pran for all his lost years in the Killing Fields?
To John McCain: why don't you pass the time by playing a little solitaire?
McCain should go jump in a lake.
It's his only post too!
Schanberg blames the atrocities of Pol Pot on the American bombing campaign. We drove them to it, donchaknow.
mcCAIN is a traitor...what happened during his stay in China during his POW days?
hmmmmmmmm
