A restaurant selling squirrel terrine has been forced to withdraw it after death threats from animal rights activists.
Protesters threatened to firebomb the Hadley Bowling Green Inn in Droitwich, Worcs, and to smash up the staff's cars over the £7.95 paté starter.
A female housekeeper was told: "I'm glad I don't work here because I wouldn't want to die in the fire."
After the dish was featured on local television the restaurant received about 25 threatening telephone calls and a string of malicious e-mails.
Its spokesman, Barney Reynolds, said: "The last thing we would want to do is to pander to this sort of intimidation.
"But the fact is that some of the staff were coming into work fearing for their lives."
He added: "We've never had to take something off the menu before because of threats from protesters. I don't know why squirrel meat is so controversial.
"In the past we've sold meat from fluffy little lambs and it's not been a problem."

Isn't there a risk of a mad cow variant from squirrel? Yup, found in the brains and spinal columns of infected squirrels. I couldn't eat one of the little furballs. I'd feel too guilty.

A little rat bait in a feeder would work wonders, most likely.
Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I agree with you on the rabbit. Floured and pan-fried in bacon grease, it's hard to beat. Squirrel, on the other hand, is best used to make pot pie. Without trying to offend the urban-dwelling among us . . . the main problem with squirrel is the preparation. No one ever seems to be able to effectively remove all the hair from it.

My dad told me when he was a boy he'd go out squirrel hunting with a 22. He'd carry them along on a stringer as he went. He said they were good eating. He lived in San Antonio. My oh my, how times have changed. Could you imagine what would happen if you walked through San Antonio now with a 22 popping squirrels?
I shot one once and grilled it on the pit just to see what it tasted like. It wasn't bad. A friend of mine stopped by and saw it on the pit and freaked out. "What the hell is that"??? We still laugh about it.
Probably like most game it helps if you know how to prepare it. I may have to try your breaded and fried recipe some time.

I remember a story of an Englishman not too long ago shooting an intruder in his home with an illegal shotgun, and the homeowner was prosecuted.
Is that apocryphal or true? More to story? Vacuum salesman?

No one ever seems to be able to effectively remove all the hair from it. Okay, Kinda gross, but I skin 'em then use a lint roller.

A big fat BS!
hmmm... I'm just telling you the law as it stands. You can choose to believe what you want. The Tony Martin case wasn't as simple as you might like.

I do enjoy watching the little critters in the trees across the way
Although they're rodents, they're definitely not like rats. I'll admit they have their "cute" side. They lend themselves to personification, and seem to have a social order that includes frolicking and playing with one another.
With that being said, I wouldn't mind trying one someday :)

The criminals broke into his house. In the United States, that is enough reason to kill the criminals. NO ONE has a right to be protected by the law for ILLEGALLY entering my home.
He was jailed for daring to defend his property. That is about as simple as it gets.
