Well, we'll have a L O N G time to find it.......LOL.
You know, something has happened in the last- oh, 20 or so years . People are becoming more...wussy, for lack of a better word.
My family has been in New Orleans since it was founded. I do not remember my parents telling me of evacuations or panic when storms came. I certainly don't remember anything resembling the wholesale paranoia about anything tropical that we have now. For hurricane Betsy we just boarded our windows, got candles & supplies and hunkered down.
Now something blowing 45mph in the gulf has people worked up. We had a 60mph thunderstorm two days ago. Should we start naming those and evacuating?
Really- the weather people are sensationalizing tropical storms now! The local idiots are even suggesting EVACUATING the city for a category 1 or 2!!! I'm sorry, that's sit outside and enjoy the breeze weather, and anyone who's lived in hurricane territory all their lives knows that.
It's all theatre now. Tropical storms were barely news years ago- now it's sad to see people terrified of a bunch of thunderstorms because someone named it.
There appears to be a heavy storm over Ghana, Toga and Benin right now.
Wow, that's a great one! It's so interesting to watch them where they start, isn't it?
Where'd you find that one?
One day we all need to share our bookmarks and get rid of the duplicates!
Once again:
Wow, that IS a big storm, isn't it?
Yes, it's fascinating. The latest for 2005 is that they're predicting for this year a few more hurricanes than last year and with higher average wind speeds.
I'll go on this list. I have about 14% odds of this sucker hitting near me in loosianne.
...Arlene remains poorly organized...squalls already approaching the Isle of Youth and western Cuba...
a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the Dry Tortugas.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the Cayman Islands and for western Cuba from Pinar del Rio to the city of Havana and Havana provinces...including the Isle of Youth.
Interests elsewhere in the northwestern Caribbean and the southeastern Gulf of Mexico should closely monitor the progress of this system.
For storm information specific to your area...including possible inland watches and warnings...please monitor products issued by your local weather office.
At 2 PM EDT...1800z...the poorly-defined center of Tropical Storm Arlene was estimated near latitude 19.8 north...longitude 84.2 west or about 150 miles... 245 km...south-southeast of the western tip of Cuba.
Arlene has been moving toward the north near 8 mph ...13 km/hr. This general motion is expected to continue with a gradual increase in forward speed during the next 24 hours...bringing the center near or over western Cuba tonight or early Friday. However most of the weather will arrive well in advance of the center.
Data from recently installed NOAA buoy...number 42056...near the center of Arlene indicate that the intensity of the cyclone has changed little...and maximum sustained winds remain near 40 mph... 65 km/hr...with higher gusts. However...some strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours. An Air Force plane will check Arlene later today.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 150 miles...240 km to the north and east of the center.
Estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb...29.59 inches.
Heavy rainfall...accompanied by squalls...is spreading across the Cayman Islands...as well as central and western Cuba and into the southern Florida Keys. Total rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches are possible in these areas in association with Arlene....mainly to the north and east of the center.
Repeating the 2 PM EDT position...19.8 N... 84.2 W. Movement toward...north near 8 mph. Maximum sustained winds... 40 mph. Minimum central pressure...1002 mb.
The next advisory will be issued by the National Hurricane Center at 5 PM EDT.

Hum along:
"We've only just begun."
I'm sure I'm on it but please check to make sure.
Even though we are in Maine, when one hits the Atlantic, Maine always gets the run off from them. Even tornados. I am not looking forward to this. Believe me.
And I am WAY north in Maine, yet we still get hit by the shock of it all. :(
You are there---are you logged in?
I just checked the new list howlin did this morning - you're on it!!!!!
How can I tell?
I don't like this forecast...right up the middle of Mobile Bay. We've not gotten over Ivan yet.
