"Informed and reliable Democratic sources" tell the Howey Political Report that former Rep. Tim Roemer (D-IN) "is seriously considering a 2006 challenge to U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar... Roemer confidants tell HPR that a statewide head-to-head poll taken by Garin-Yang last week had Lugar leading Roemer by 41-39 percent. It also revealed that 36 percent felt the country was on the right track and 53 percent felt the country was on the wrong track. Previous published polls in Indiana have had Senator Lugar with approval ratings in the 70th percentile."
Nobody will touch Lugar in 2006, this article and referenced poll is nonsense. Unfortunately for this Hoosier conservative, Lugar has been acting as a spine-less RINO too much recently, but he's still better than a RAT.
If Roemer is stupid enough to do this, he will lose by 15 points or more.
This is nonsense -- must be drinking the same kool-aid that Brad Carson did here in Oklahoma when he ran for Senate last time -- their poll had him leading Coburn by 12-15 and he got clobbered. Clintonites ran his campaign and after the election admitted they used flawed polls and in one instance before the election gave out poll numbers from a phoney poll -- totally bogus.
No way do I believe this poll. It is amazing how many people that signed on last year before the election find articles from websites that are not the norm -- and every last one of them seems to have the RATs looking better than a Republican. Does make one wonder!
Garin-Hart-Yang also has KKK Byrd only up about 10 pts in West Virginia. And since they have a ten-point bias ...
Wouldn't that be sweet to see him ousted?
Now that's just darn funny. The Clintonites so full of hubris that they actually believed their own spin and bull**** polls.
rat self delusion. Indiana will turn a GOPer out right after Utah votes for a rat senator, or Alabama does the same.
I live in roemer former district. The current congressman, a pubbie, took roemer to task since he didn't live in indiana. Roemer said his home was in indiana. I remember calling his office after he lost asking when tim was moving back to indiana. I got a bunch of silence and she hung up the phone.
Lugar has the same problem. I dont think he has live in indiana for several years now. I hate lugar, but he will be better than whoever the rats put up against him.
In order for an incumbent G.O.P. Senator to lose in Indiana you need one of the following:
I. Factional feuding within the state Republican organization (Capehart 1962)
II. Great Depression (Watson 1932, Robinson 1934)
NO Democrat can or will beat Lugar if one of the above does not happen by election time 2006.
Lugar is safe no matter who takes him on, period. When Lugar does finally retire in 2012 Governor Daniels will be looking for a new job so Buyer, et all will be out of luck.
Sorry to inform you but Mitch will never win another election in Indiana ever again. He has made the right mad and he will not survive the primary.
Unless someone with a comparable amount of money steps up in the primary Mitch will win and serve until Jan. 2013. An open race in 2008 just leaves the door open for Bart Peterson to step up, no Republican wants that.
Mitch is a one termer. After the fast one he pulled on us, I would probably vote for a dumbocrat before Mitch. Even if the dumbocrat was promising to raise taxes to 100 percent.
On a side note, people in my town have put their "My man Mitch" signs back up in their yard. Except this time, they have big black Xs through them. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.
You're probably right. Peterson would have more of a chance than Roemer.
