Mac OS X has been leading secret double life. Every Mac project build for Intel and PowerPC. Every release of Mac OS X has been built for both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. For the last 5 years. Mac OS X is cross-platform by design. Apple's demo is on an Intel-based system. Jobs shows all Mac OS X Tiger features are already compatible with Intel-based processors. Not done yet. Will put into the developer hands to help Apple finish it.

when people can buy a shrink wrapped OS X to run on their existing Intel laptops/desktops - start selling MSFT stock.
BTTT
Does this mean that i can buy a copy of MAC OSx and install it on a PC from HP or Dell?........
When people can buy a shrink wrapped OS X to run on their existing Intel laptops/desktops - PING ME WITH DETAILS!
Demo version of OS X 10.4.1 for Intel x86 will be shipped to developers in two weeks.
From what I am reading, the answer is yes. And if you have "old" Mac software, you can run that too.
= )
It looks like that might be less than a year away, probably sooner.
Does Bill Gates know about this?............Suicide watch in Rentoon?....
How difficult could this be? OS X is just FreeBSD wrapped up in some Applish wrapping and bows. FreeBSD has run on Intel for years, longer than Apple has had it.

When Apple stops manufacturing "the whole widget" in favor of the Microsoft model, I wouldn't go long on Apple, either.
I cannot wait to run OSX on a PC clone. I sure hope this happens.
I think they will actually like this. They will see it as kind of like Java. If X-86 folks make the switch to the MAC OS, there might be some more decent video games ported to the OS.
Apple has always had a captive audience, hardware-wise. If they try to ship just an OS they'll be mired in all the same compatibility woes that affect Windows. Bad third party drivers, installation problems, upgrade problems, etc.
Never. The Mac will remain a closed platform, just running Intel CPUs instead of IBM PowerPCs.
"They are probably all out at the gay bar crying in their beers."
You witnessed this firsthand, I take it.
Sound to me like a MAC Tiger OS on a Dell machine could maybe be a big winner.
