NEW YORK -- The actor Russell Crowe was arrested Monday morning for allegedly throwing a telephone at an employee of the Manhattan hotel where he was staying, police said.
Crowe, 41, allegedly threw the phone at the Mercer Hotel employee, striking him in the face, during an argument at around 4:20 a.m., said police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wysokowski.
The Australian movie star was arrested and charged by police with second degree assault, Wysokowski said.
Crowe was expected to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court later on Monday.
An employee who answered the phone at the Mercer Hotel in SoHo said he was unaware of the incident.
Crowe won the Academy Award for best actor for "Gladiator" in 2001.
Nodding!
I am sure Crowe was wasted out of his mind at 4:20AM like he was in previous arrests.
Perhaps, he is upset at the lousy box office results of his latest "art"?
It doesn't apply to other people--only him.
Once a Clymer, always a Clymer.
Maybe his new movie should be called "Gorilla Man".

"Wasn't there an episode of South Park which had a Russell Crowe reality show where he went all over the world on a tugboat beating up people?"
Yes, Episode 604 "The New Terrance & Phillip Movie Trailer" shown more than 3 years ago. Hilarious and it sums it all up; he goes around the world in his tugboat, beating up people and singing "Making movies, making songs, fightin' 'round the world". Two of the scenes take place at Tiananmen Square & a basketball court in NYC with gangster members. Parker and Hart added a dash of Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter to his character, i.e. in one scene he peers behind bushes and whispers "there's a pwerto rican; notice the colorful headress"... brilliant comedy.
At least you can say that Russell Crowe hasn't changed much.
The Quick and the Dumb.
I thought only John Bolton was capable of such behavior..(cough, cough!)
Do we have another frustrated liberal with an anger management problem?
Wasn't this a Ron Howard movie?
Has anyone else noticed how Opie's movies don't make enough lately at the box office to buy a six pack of Milwaukee's Best, and yet he's still churning out these "thoughtful think pieces?"
What do you mean "another?"
The challenge is to find a liberal who doesn't.
It's sad. Not in the sense of, "He's got problems, so he's not responsible" sad. But in the sense of, "What talent, what promise; look how his own enslaving sins are ruining him" sad.
All the external opportunities in the world do not translate into inward transformation.
I hear he's pretty obnoxious and has a terrible temper. Too bad. He's very handsome and a great actor. Sigh.
I think he may have a bit of a problem with beer. Just my 2 cents.
Gee Mr. Crowe, lighten up on those CNS stimulants!
One would think he had 'everything'...
..a successful career, a beautiful wife and new baby....adulation, attention, tons of money.
Nothing.
Nothing that can fill that whole in his heart.
Really too bad....even World magazine gave his newest film high praise.
