EAST PALATKA, Fla. -- Federal agents raided a migrant farm labor camp where homeless men and women were kept in what labor officials called a version of modern-day slavery.
Four people, including the camp's owner, Ronald Evans, face federal charges in a case that officials said is likely to grow. Investigators are looking into alleged environmental violations and drugs found at the camp in Friday's raid.
"The word is out that we are concerned about human trafficking, and we will leave no stone or camp unturned," said Steve Cole, a spokesman for Jacksonville U.S. attorney Paul I. Perez.
Officials said homeless people were recruited to the Evans Labor Camp through offers of room and board, along with alcohol, tobacco and drugs, which they bought on credit. But they never made enough in the field to pay it off, according to an investigative summary.

BULL S--T! Every illegal immigrant is subject to illegal trafficing and or illegal terms of employment, almost all of them abused along the way. One or two 'cosmetic' raids once or twice a year really convince me of this guy's sincerity.
The illegals are abused. Our national leaders stand by with glee.
So, what is the status of the rest of them. Will Federal civil Rights Attorneys help anyone who is looking for a job?

We have many illegals working here. Just the other day a traffic accident happened between and woman and a van full of illegals. Mexicans. They refused to go to the hospital...had some bandages put on them by the police. I called the police later to ask if they would be deported and the person said she didnt have any info. I asked her to have someone call me back but of course no one has.
Exactly. Where does a coyote end and trafficking begin? It's only not trafficking if the illegals make substantial wages? The US government facilitates the largest trafficking system in the world by not policing the borders! What hypocrisy! In fact, the US 'system' of illegal immigration is very like trafficking -- except that it is not THAT difficult to return home, but there are still a number of barriers.
Children, for example... We give their kids free citizenship, pay for their schools, and assimilate the children with the power of our culture. For the illegal parents, this creates a situation much like the threats of traffickers. Even if you disagree with this comparison, it's still a tragedy.
Furthermore, shouldn't Mexico also be liable for creating WORSE POVERTY than these people were experiencing? They still decided to stay it seems!!! I truly doubt it was like a prison, even if they claimed they had debts or something.
Well, boys and girls,,,, it looks like the "Orange Removal Machines" have come of age.
If the feds are invading and busting up migrant work camps that have been around for the last 40 years, openly recuited workers in the daily newspapers, state job listing services and temp agencies, with the blessings of local politicians (Who own the orange groves), then they have found a way to remove the oranges efficiently with machinery.
The only losers here are the labor bosses. Who, IMHO should be hanged. (or is it hung?)

Condoleezza Rice released a congressional report evaluating efforts in fighting human trafficking. For a second consecutive year, the report placed Mexico on a watch list... Last year, Bush announced that Mexico will eventually receive about $8.2 million to help combat human trafficking.
It works to minimize the crime of illegal immigration... If we are so hyped up about 'slavery' and 'extreme trafficking', it indicates that we see illegal immigration as legitimate as long as the conditions are not too bad.
It also gives the illegal immigration lobby one issue to work on on which they can reasonably expect to receive broad support.
Too bad we also give 20 billion dollars a year in remittances to encourage trafficking.
What the heck did they do this for?
