Human trafficking is the new talking point du jour. With this newest effort I'm wondering if it will end up making it easier to allow illegal aliens to stay here as refugees (haven't they suffered enough?)

Condoleezza Rice released a congressional report evaluating efforts in fighting human trafficking. For a second consecutive year, the report placed Mexico on a watch list... Last year, Bush announced that Mexico will eventually receive about $8.2 million to help combat human trafficking.

It works to minimize the crime of illegal immigration... If we are so hyped up about 'slavery' and 'extreme trafficking', it indicates that we see illegal immigration as legitimate as long as the conditions are not too bad.

It also gives the illegal immigration lobby one issue to work on on which they can reasonably expect to receive broad support.

Too bad we also give 20 billion dollars a year in remittances to encourage trafficking.

Yep, it does indeed look like the justification for the claim of asylum is being built.

Thanks for the link.

We make no demands on Mexico whatsoever with regard to this situation. Amazing!

I read your link. I noticed it is OUR fault, as usual!

Jennifer Allen, executive director of the Border Action Network, a human rights group in Tucson and Nogales, said tighter border enforcement in the United States has forced increased numbers of would-be immigrants looking to escape the poor economic conditions in their countries to seek help from criminal outfits that wind up taking advantage of them, or worse, delivering them into some type of bondage.

"This is a byproduct of the U.S.' own policies," Allen said.
