PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at their Crawford ranch. Undoubtedly Barney and Beezie are with them, but no new photos have turned up on Yahoo News Photos. (Sigh.) British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be visiting the President at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting is intended to be preparatory to the G8 Summit to be held in Scotland next month. They are expected to talk about aid to Africa, as well as the status of things in Afghanistan and Iraq.
THE WEEK AHEAD: From White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's press gaggle yesterday.
Monday, the President will be going to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to make remarks at the opening of the general assembly for the Organization of American States. Then when he gets back to the White House, he'll make remarks on the South Lawn for Black Music Month. There will be a White House Black Music Month reception.
Tuesday, the President welcomes Prime Minister Blair back to the White House. Following their meeting, they will participate in a joint -- it's an afternoon meeting, they'll participate in a joint press availability. That's scheduled for the East Room at this point. And then they will have dinner after the joint press availability.
Wednesday, the President meets with Prime Minister Erdogan at the White House in the Oval Office, and then he will be making remarks on strengthening Social Security later in the day.
Thursday, GWB travels to Colombus, Ohio, where he will make remarks on the Patriot Act. Congress is considering legislation to reauthorize the Patriot Act right.
Friday, the President will go to McLean, Virginia, where he will tour the National Counterterrorism Center. And then he will meet with President Roh in the Oval Office later that day.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address today.
America's economy is on the right track. Over the past two years, we've added more than 3.5 million new jobs. More Americans are working today than ever before. Home ownership is at an all time high. Small businesses are flourishing. Factory output is growing. And families are taking home more of what they earn.
These are hopeful signs for our economy, and we must work hard to sustain that prosperity. When members of Congress return next week, they need to take action on four key priorities for the American people. [The President then discussed each of the four points. "Rumblings across Washington and the Internet claim this is a step from Democrats towards impeachment of President Bush.
Fellow Democrat Rep. John Conyers of Michigan has issued a statement on the U.S. House of Representatives stating that he is seeking information regarding the meeting minutes.
"I am seeking information regarding the charges made in the so-called Downing Street Minutes that there was a secret agreement between the U.S. and the U..K to invade Iraq by the summer of 2002, well before the president sought congressional authority." Conyers said.
"Please provide us with any information or leads you might have regarding such a secret pre-war deal, or other efforts to manipulate intelligence or provoke a response to justify war. We will treat any information provided on this site as confidential. Thank you for your assistance in this important matter."
However, All Headline News has re-discovered that a bill signed by then President Clinton named "The Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998" gave President Bush all of the legal recourse necessary for the war.
Stating directly from the bill: "Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 - Declares that it should be the policy of the United States to seek to remove the Saddam Hussein regime from power in Iraq and to replace it with a democratic government. "
The H.R. 4655 law was signed into effect October 31,1998.
Republicans plan to issue a response to Senator Kerry by using his own words against him, a tactic used in the 2004 Election. Where Sen. Kerry was quoted as saying the war was justified and Saddam Hussein needed to be removed. "
John Kerry Reportedly To Present "Downing Street Memo" To Congress (New Info)
Those POSERS are just pathetic ... strummin' the same old, tired old tune, all the while thinking they're really getting somewhere !
will be pushed through by the various governments in the EU without consulting us little people. The Conservatives are already kicking up a stink lets hope they continue to do so and vocally.*
Thanks for in insight to the possibilities. You are
probably correct and I hope the Tories expose what is
going on.
Happy Birthday jonny!

Leftists will always find a way to promote ever bigger, more intrusive government. As much as I admire Blair's stand on Iraq and his obvious friendship with GWB -- and am grateful -- I never forget he is a Leftist.
Like you, I fear they will find a way to bring back the "constitution" and ram it down the throats of the European people.
I (and other FReepers) put up threads about the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 here long ago. For the most part, our Republican elected officials -- including, unfortunately, President Bush -- have ignored this very valid line of argument. Sigh.
Good evening, I would have gotten back sooner, but I had two hop on the tractor and cut the grass
I took my laptop with me thinking that the Hotel we stayed at was internet ready, but NO :-(
& different Commissions have looked into the pre war Intel and they all said the same thing... PRESIDENT BUSH DID NOT HYPE THE INTEL, OR PRESSURE ANY ANALYSTS
I haven't heard any official comment from the RNC, GOP, W or any W people... have you? I'd frankly be surprised that they would even give the dignity of a response to such lunacy. I know this: W (and Rove) play chess, "an angel rides in the whirlwind," and God has His plan.
