A day in the life of President Bush (6/4/05): photos
WhiteHouse.gov; Yahoo News Photos ^ | 6/4/05

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at their Crawford ranch. Undoubtedly Barney and Beezie are with them, but no new photos have turned up on Yahoo News Photos. (Sigh.) British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be visiting the President at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting is intended to be preparatory to the G8 Summit to be held in Scotland next month. They are expected to talk about aid to Africa, as well as the status of things in Afghanistan and Iraq.

THE WEEK AHEAD: From White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's press gaggle yesterday.

Monday, the President will be going to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to make remarks at the opening of the general assembly for the Organization of American States. Then when he gets back to the White House, he'll make remarks on the South Lawn for Black Music Month. There will be a White House Black Music Month reception.

Tuesday, the President welcomes Prime Minister Blair back to the White House. Following their meeting, they will participate in a joint -- it's an afternoon meeting, they'll participate in a joint press availability. That's scheduled for the East Room at this point. And then they will have dinner after the joint press availability.

Wednesday, the President meets with Prime Minister Erdogan at the White House in the Oval Office, and then he will be making remarks on strengthening Social Security later in the day.

Thursday, GWB travels to Colombus, Ohio, where he will make remarks on the Patriot Act. Congress is considering legislation to reauthorize the Patriot Act right.

Friday, the President will go to McLean, Virginia, where he will tour the National Counterterrorism Center. And then he will meet with President Roh in the Oval Office later that day.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address today.

America's economy is on the right track. Over the past two years, we've added more than 3.5 million new jobs. More Americans are working today than ever before. Home ownership is at an all time high. Small businesses are flourishing. Factory output is growing. And families are taking home more of what they earn.

These are hopeful signs for our economy, and we must work hard to sustain that prosperity. When members of Congress return next week, they need to take action on four key priorities for the American people. [The President then discussed each of the four points. Maybe if she cleaned up a little in CTU, Jack would fall for her instead of all the losers he's been attracted to these last 2 years! LOL!

Chloe made a pass at Jack--did you see it? It was in the last 5 episodes or so. Chloe was awkward as usual, saying something like "If, uh ... If you ever need anyone to talk to, um, y-you know where I am." LOL!

Were you on the 24 Live Thread? There were a lot of people who shared your opinion of Jack's women. ("Audrey" was almost universally despised :)

What is the difference between a press conference and a press availability?

My view is that a press conference is for making a statement to the press and possibly taking questions. A press 'availability' is (in this case) Dubyah and Tony Blair appearing together for essentially a photo op, where they might field a few 'lite' questions.

Maybe a Beltway insider would have a different take.

I keep hoping you'll come up with another thread!

You'll have to be patient :) TAR is the only other thread I'm committed to and it won't start until September or so ...

Have you seen the ads for "Rockstar: INXS"?

No--I haven't watched the CD yet--but I hope my copy has the alternate version of her death/life.

I remember Chloe saying that. And Jack just gave her a look like--"in your dreams, sweetie"! LOL!

I didn't go on the thread--on those live ones I end up spending too much time posting or reading and miss the real action. This show just requires my undivided attention! I'm glad they all have the good taste to dislike Audrey, though! He's just gonna have to do better!

I HOPE he doesn't hook up with Audrey again. She drove me nuts.

Well, she thinks Jack's dead now--sounds like an effective way to end a relationship, LOL.

I'm not telling and yes you do! :) By missing the first three seasons you've missed all of Sherry Palmer's antics--you won't believe how far that woman went to "help" her husband.

Unless he calls her on that cell phone of his to tell her he's ok, which I'm betting he will do. And then we have to put up with her angst all over again! :) I've heard Palmer's wife was worse than Hillary, but I just can't imagine how that sweet man could be married to her. Did her character die too?

Well you remember the band INXS? Late 80's/ early 90's? Their lead singer passed away a few years ago under (ahem) bizarre circumstances. So now the surviving members (possibly in need of cash) have agreed to be a part of an AI clone on CBS where a dozen or so aspiring singers will compete to see who becomes the new lead singer for the band.

It looks good on paper, but who knows. It's another brainchild from Survivor creator Mark Burnett, so it just might be a hit. It begins July 11.

I hope my copy has the alternate version of her death/life.

I'm sure it does. I also think that alternate scene has audio commentary from the producers, telling the thought process behind it--interesting stuff. I'm glad they didn't go with the happy ending. Jack, his wife and his daughter literally walk away arm-in-arm. It bordered on silly.

Yeah, much as I would have liked for her to live, that ending sounds kinda sappy! Not in keeping with the no-holds-barred action that the show has!

Sure is hard to wait, though! If they hadn't had those long first and last episodes, we could still be watching it! Darn them! :o)

I loved INXS! I wouldn't mind seeing who is competing, but all these AI wannabe shows have all been sort of pathetic. The one the other night was good when they sang their own songs but when they tried to do someone elses they weren't very good. Except maybe Loverboy. I'll have to try to watch it. Of course nothing else is on, so really what choice do i have? :) I rented National Treasure, Racing Stripes and LOR:Return of the King. Please don't tell Pippin, but I fell asleep last time I watched the LOR, so I thought I'd try to watch again. It was good but I was so tired and Blockbuster didn't have the no late fee policy then.

Please no! I liked Audrey when she was being held captive by the Muslims, but after she returned to CTU and started barking orders to everybody, the bloom fell off the rose.

I've heard Palmer's wife was worse than Hillary, but I just can't imagine how that sweet man could be married to her.

So much happened in the first season. Sherry started out as a somewhat sympathetic character, but as the show progressed episode-by-episode her true self was revealed. The moment when David realizes exactly who his wife is ... that's one of the greatest scenes of the entire series. YOU MUST SEE IT! :)
