PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at their Crawford ranch. Undoubtedly Barney and Beezie are with them, but no new photos have turned up on Yahoo News Photos. (Sigh.) British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be visiting the President at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting is intended to be preparatory to the G8 Summit to be held in Scotland next month. They are expected to talk about aid to Africa, as well as the status of things in Afghanistan and Iraq.
THE WEEK AHEAD: From White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's press gaggle yesterday.
Monday, the President will be going to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to make remarks at the opening of the general assembly for the Organization of American States. Then when he gets back to the White House, he'll make remarks on the South Lawn for Black Music Month. There will be a White House Black Music Month reception.
Tuesday, the President welcomes Prime Minister Blair back to the White House. Following their meeting, they will participate in a joint -- it's an afternoon meeting, they'll participate in a joint press availability. That's scheduled for the East Room at this point. And then they will have dinner after the joint press availability.
Wednesday, the President meets with Prime Minister Erdogan at the White House in the Oval Office, and then he will be making remarks on strengthening Social Security later in the day.
Thursday, GWB travels to Colombus, Ohio, where he will make remarks on the Patriot Act. Congress is considering legislation to reauthorize the Patriot Act right.
Friday, the President will go to McLean, Virginia, where he will tour the National Counterterrorism Center. And then he will meet with President Roh in the Oval Office later that day.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address today.
America's economy is on the right track. Over the past two years, we've added more than 3.5 million new jobs. More Americans are working today than ever before. Home ownership is at an all time high. Small businesses are flourishing. Factory output is growing. And families are taking home more of what they earn.
These are hopeful signs for our economy, and we must work hard to sustain that prosperity. When members of Congress return next week, they need to take action on four key priorities for the American people. [The President then discussed each of the four points. Hi Wolf, I think you told me but I forgot, what
street in Jersey City did you live?
The "Chloe" actress does look much nicer in that photo than on the series.
Thanks, Jonny. Much appreciated, especially coming from you, who did such a great job with the huge AI thread.
It is! My heart gets to pounding so hard sometimes I'm scared I'll have a heart attack or something! Cannot make myself move from the TV until a commercial comes! Just wish it lasted longer. It is a loooooong time till next season starts!
Guess I'm gonna have to dig out my CD of the First Season and revisit it! It's been long enough now that I have forgotten nearly everything that happened that year. I hated when Jack's wife was killed off! Made me MAD!!
Yes she does! Did you happen to see the short-lived "Kelsey Grammer's Sketch Show" a couple months ago? Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) was one of the cast memebers--it was a terrible show (which is why it's been cancelled), but it was worth watching just to see Mary Lynn break out of that "Chloe" mold. She can be very beautiful when she wants to be.
When I was in school, my father lived in an apartment on Van Wagenen Ave. Then later we moved to Academy St. near Journal Square.
Today we had a church workday and were getting our classrooms ready for tomorrow. Any way, we were talking about tv shows we liked. I mentioned 24 and every one of the people looked at me and said I've never heard of it!! It was like a weird out of body experience for me. Of course I had to put these people on the right path, so that maybe next year they will watch it. Of course I also had to remind myself that this was my first year to watch.
It's getting on toward late afternoon, and I have errands to run and dogs to walk. "See" you all tomorrow.
Shoot! I guess it was short-lived--I didn't even know it was on! Would have watched it just to see her in a different mode! Maybe if she cleaned up a little in CTU, Jack would fall for her instead of all the losers he's been attracted to these last 2 years! LOL!
You're welcome. Hope it's a good one.
Thanks for tonight slow night on UK TV and it is good to have something constructive to think about
Have a good evening
I just found out the husband of one of my co-workers loves the show. When she found out that I liked it, too, she just rolled her eyes. Her hubby used to tell her if she called him during the show that he was "in a meeting". When she found out he was "meeting" 24, she was soooooo mad!
I am more into pop/folk or traditional folk
About as modern day music as I get is some of Enya.
I remember the old Ted Mack Amateur Hour on TV in the
50s and early 60s. More low key.
I like Enya too
That thread is a monster isn't it? :) But at least I get a seven month break. You post the weekend Dose week after week without a break. I can't compete with that :)
LOL! Well she should be more considerate! Speaking of his loser girlfriends, I HOPE he doesn't hook up with Audrey again. She drove me nuts.
I keep hoping you'll come up with another thread! The thread was more fun than the show.
By the way are there any book club threads on FR?
Yeah I know, but remember how it used to be? FOX would start the new season in November, but with only 24 episodes, they had to interrupt the show in the middle of the season--usually for a MONTH!--so those episodes could stretch all the way to May.
I hated that!!!
It's much better, IMO, for them to wait until January, like FOX did this year, to start the season. That way we get 5 solid months of 24 with no interruption!
I hated when Jack's wife was killed off! Made me MAD!!
Did you see the alternate "happy" ending on the DVD, where she lived? It was too sweet. The only way to end the season was for the character to die, cruel as it was.
Me, too! Audrey was just a whiner! If she couldn't choose Jack over that wimp husband of hers, she doesn't deserve him! LOL!
