``What would Ted Williams think? Would he turn over in his freezer?'' Mary Clossey, a Newton mom of eight who has been a critic of gay-rights efforts, said of the Sox' decision to let three stars of the TV show ``Queer Eye for the Straight Guy'' throw out tomorrow's ceremonial first pitch. ``I'm tired of hearing about (homosexuality). Sunday is a family day at Fenway Park. Why would you want to do that on a Sunday?"

I wonder how they will react when the umpire calls out, "That's 2 Balls and 0 strikes!"
The owners are leftists. They were big supporters of John Kerry . They also gave pitcher Curt Shilling some grief for his support of George Bush. They have money and an agenda. - Tom
You're damn right.
The Boss would never, ever, tolerate this kind of stuff. I have had my issues with him as a New Yorker but I will give him his props for this.
Check the article linked. It said the Red Sox officials did not return a call to comment. Sounds like the backblast was more than they anticipated and they realize that their core market does not watch "Will and Grace" and "Queer Eye". Bad, bad marketing.
How 'bout "Flounce to the plate?"
I sure wish you would change that headline...
Pray for W and Our Troops
Any Freepers that don't think that these 3 guys can handle some balls are sadly mistaken :)
Kerry did when he did the first pitch just before the DNC.
The "scouting report" on Kerry, supported by Sox owners (Tom "Mr. Katie Couric" Werner at left)...Stick to baseball, fellers.
Curt got it right though.
Homosexual Agenda Ping.
Another story about the Red Sox honoring a homosexual entertainment "figure".
Who is making this decision, I wonder?
Let me know if you want on/off this pinglist.
On Family day, too.
The paper's writer opens the story with a quote from a "breeder" (mom of eight kids) who is described as someone "who has been a critic of gay-rights efforts".
"gay-rights"
How about parents rights?
Kid: "Mommy, why is that man kissing that other man?"
Mom: "Because it's 'family day' and there are all kinds of families. Didn't GLSEN teach you that in elementary school?"
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Some more FRiendly advice: clicking on gay threads means you're thinking about homosexuality, which is what they want you to do.
Huh?
First of all I am not telling a Gay inspired joke; I posted an earlier background story which really was a story on pr "image" (check my earlier post).
In my deepest thoughts (sic), I was not thinking "gay"(whatever that means); but was thinking back to the Chicago Bears when their celebrity status got the best of them; and the focus, thus, became about being a celebrity hero and not about the team or the job you were paid to do. Egos got in the way and we know what happened to the Bears and also the Bulls (Rodman etc) and am sure many other teams.
So.. that is what flew across my mind when first noticing this headline (besides being about the Red Sox).
Another note : This Headline would not have made it in the Boston Globe.
The real agenda behind this is the knowledge that they will ALWAYS offend many people, and the possibility that they will provoke one Crazy Homophobe out of the crowd to rush out onto the mound and punch out the sacrificial queer. They are really up to no good: it is THEY who don't want to live their lives and "just be accepted", it is THEY who can't "get over it". This is all about politics, and particularly the Politics of Polarization.
That's strange. I figured most of those guys for catchers, not pitchers.
Anyone have a good list or article on the special protections and subsidies that MLB and its franchises get from government as "our nation's sport" or "it's good for the city so let's spend millions on a stadium instead of making the owners do it," etc.?
I was at Fenway yesterday, and YES... they certainly did!
