"Deep Throat" has at last come forward. Arguably the most notorious informant in recent history is former FBI official W. Mark Felt, and it's been confirmed by The Washington Post.
Mr. Felt was second-in-command at the FBI during Watergate, and is now 91 years of age. In stepping forward, he not only destroys his reputation, but he takes a chunk out of the reputation of the agency that supported him and his family in a comfortable lifestyle for so many years.
Had Mr. Felt used the lawful route to voice his concerns about the Nixon administration he might be remembered with a modicum of respect, if not admiration. Some in the Nixon administration were misusing their powers but not because they were feathering their own nests like Mr. Felt was. For their sins they got lengthy trials and prison sentences. Mr. Felt broke numerous federal laws, but received immunity from prosecution by hiding behind the skirts of two reporters at The Washington Post. They made their careers, and he made a clean getaway.

I was floored at how much I did NOT know about Watergate (of course, what I thought I knew, Woodward and Bernstein "told" me.)
BTTT
Nixon's culpability for obstructing the investigation of the burglary committed without his prior knowledge does not rise to the level of an average day of the Clinton copresidency.
Nixon: a file--Hitlery/Craig Livingstone: a thousand files.
Nixon: sixteen minutes; Hitlery [billing records]: two years.
And so it goes.
Ann Coulter, High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton, Regnery, 1998, makes it clear Nixon wasn't "Nixon"--Bill Clinton was the "Nixon" the Left bitched about.
After all, Clinton passed our missile guidance to the ChiComs who then funded his reelection.
Clinton raped Juanita Broaddrick and abused many other women.
Clinton used the IRS to audit enemies--Nixon, never audited anybody, but rather got audited himself.
Felt is a rat, a weasel, a maggot; which, is grander than Bob Whopper Woodward and his Sister Cleo act with Casey and Condi.
The Left is sinking into the La Brea Tar Pits.
It won't be missed.
And yes, Bob Woodward and Mark Felt, John Kerry and Jane Fonda, Hitlery Rodham and Richard Benveniste all share the bloody hands of Lady Macbeth vis-a-vis Skull Mountain in sunny Cambodia.
Zappa:
Do you love it? Do you hate it?
There it is, the way you made it.
..AMERICA DOES NOT RESIDE IN THEM.....
Yes, I DO question their patriotism.
So everything from this bastion of the US intelligence community could be believed as "Gospel". The next step for the liberal media is to trace when the US intelligence community switched from being a source of gospel to being the group that produced the not-gospel about WMD in Iraq?
Felt is a money-grubbing sore loser who didn't get J Edgar's job and broke the law spilling secrets. Naturally, the left is slobbering all over him. Gary Aldrich is a hero who tried to alert the nation to the clinton's criminality, and the left hates him. Screw the MSM traitors.
Thanks for the ping!
"Hopefully, it will help to show the hypocrisy of the left as we go into 08."
Wait a minute now! This is supposed to help Newb-weak, not hurt their godlike kamizars: Woodhead and Burnstein. This isn't how it's supposed to work! Blast those new media yahoos! /sarc
Great find, JimRob! Gary Aldrich ought to be a big celeb by now. He warned everyone what kind of gutter trash was in the Whitehouse, and he was proven correct, with aces to spare. Stolen White House furniture, a pardon sold to a crack dealer for cash, terrorists pardoned for votes, and the latest campaign finance scandal Who was surprised? A topless bar owner vetting Clinton contacts-- but hey! Topless bar owners are more credible than Peter Paul? Think 'mobster', and you got the Clintons' number. One step further, think 'mobster friend', and you got the old media's number.
Now the media bias can't be more obvious regarding Aldrich. Felt is the great hero while Aldrich is the 'cheap sellout Clinton hater'? Who stepped forward on day one? Who hid in the shadows up until he had a stroke?
Re: 72, agreed on all four points.

Stay out of your stateroom..
Calling Mr. Woodward to the phone in the lobby..

"From the coauthor of All the President's Men and The Final Days comes this pained, loving, intensely felt account of his parents' ordeal, and his own emotional upheaval, during President Harry Truman's loyalty purges. Both of Bernstein's parents had Communist Party affiliations in the 1940s. His father, Al, a Senate-appointed investigative attorney on Capitol Hill, later a union leader in San Francisco, attended a few Party meetings; his mother, Sylvia, participated in the party's campaigns on behalf of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and to desegregate swimming pools. When Truman's loyalty boards began passing judgment, in 1947, on government employees' fitness to serve, Al Bernstein was defense counsel in some 500 such cases. His own union career derailed, he opened a laundry. In 1954, his wife was called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. The FBI was a constant presence in their son's boyhood and adolescence."
I didn't know that kerry was a red diaper baby. I think the answer is that the communist dream is alive and well, both then and now. We think that somehow now that communism has been "defeated" with the fall of the Berlin wall, and the collapse of the USSR, that our times are somehow different than "those" times. In my mind, not a whole lot has changed,
the same types of people are doing the same sorts of things and for the same reasons.
Alger Hiss, Mark Felt - not a whole lot to choose between them. Hell you've got people like Harold Ickes doing today what their forbears did fifty years ago. Same old story, sad to report.
Everything I've read or heard indicates the story was actually pretty small. Bent, too.
Also, you are 100% correct that just because Communism died in Russia, the Communist ideal is not dead.
Communism was, and always will be, an evil ideology that attempted to be God, and to subvert divine law. It was inherently criminal, virtually exterminationist, and the twin of Nazism.
Evil is not yet dead in the world. While the moniker "Communist" has fallen into disfavor, the left used to proudly hail that title. Now they call themselves "Progressives."
Hey guys, Thanks for reminding me of how MANY players there are in the Communist connection, and that many are red from birth. I should do more research.
You have a way with word play that leaves me speechless!! Feel better now??
Agree on all points.
Hell, just being here on FR qualifies as research in by book!
