'Hit Me Baby' Brings Back 80s 1-Hit Wonders

Did you ever wonder what happened to some of those one-hit wonders like Vanilla Ice, Tommy Tutone and Flock of Seagulls?

NBC did too, so they are bringing them back in "Hit Me Baby One More Time." What do they look like? What do they sound like?

We tracked down hitmakers from the past to take the stage to perform one more time and you can be the judge.

For three weeks, the former Top Ten artists will perform their trademark hit song along with one of today's current hits. At the end of the night, the live audience votes for their favorites! Watch "Hit Me Baby One More Time," Thursday nights at 9 on NBC 10.

Vanilla Ice had a short but very successful career. He had maybe 4 or more songs that went somewhere on the charts. He was better than a one hit wonder.

He also was very good with the money and was one of the few that grew his wealth and still has money today.

He tried puck type rock and races motorcycles professionally.
I wouldn't want a cd of his now, but in his time he was a decent performer and popular.

He got black listed by rappers for not being from the ghetto and of course for being a white guy doing rap.

Somehow they got that into the views of the buying audience, and from there he was effectively ruined as a performer.

When I was fifteen years old I went to a T.V. show recording of Adam Ant, who sang "Stand and Deliver".

A lot of the early/mid 80's Blitz/New Wave was great music. It was quite upbeat, innocent and fun, in contrast to a lot of the nihilistic, dark music that became popular with the youth of the 90's and today. P.S. A Flock of Seagulls was not a Persian band. "I ran, I ran so far away...Couldn't get away."

Actually, he was criticized by rappers because Vanilla Ice claimed he grew up in the ghetto's(I actually saw an interview where he stated this), when in fact he grew up without want in a nice neighborhood.

He also stole a line from the song, "Under Pressure" featuring David Bowie and Freddie Mercury without giving recognition to the song or artists.

That is why he lost credibility. Although he could sing and dance, Vanilla was a "wanna be."

"Antmusic" is one of the top twenty dance songs of the 80's. It is a guaranteed dance floor filler.
