ACLU threatens talk-show hosts over cross - (Roger Hedgecock, Rick Roberts threatened)
WORLD NET DAILY.COM ^ | JUNE 3, 2005 | James L. Lambert

The ACLU, representing an atheist, is threatening five San Diego-area personalities with legal action over the proposed wording of a ballot initiative that will determine the fate of a historic cross on city land.

The five behind the Mt. Soledad initiative are KFMB radio talk-show host Rick Roberts; KOGO radio talk-show host Roger Hedgecock; San Diego Padres radio announcer Jerry Coleman, Rep. Randy Cunningham, R-Calif.; and SoledadNational.com Director Phil Thalmeimer.

The attorney for atheist Philip Paulson, James McElroy, has told the men he will file the challenge next week.

McElroy claims that a number of their statements on the ballot, prepared for the July 26 city-wide vote, are "false and misleading."

Some statements at issue include, "as in the case with Mount Soledad, wherever veterans are honored with the symbols of the fallen, an intolerant few will launch frivolous lawsuits that waste our tax dollars … ."

Another statement under challenge is, "in 2004, the president of the United States signed legislation designating the Mount Soledad site as a 'National War Memorial,' necessitating the land transfer."

McElroy also objects to the sentence, "Vote Yes to transfer the land to the federal government and to permanently preserve Mount Soledad -- as it is where it is."

Last month, the San Diego City Council allowed voters to decide the fate of the historic cross, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean in nearby La Jolla. The legal battles date back to 1989.

Roberts said today he and the others "will defend the wording in court."

While there has been "a legal challenge against all five of us, I think we will prevail in court," he said.

Roberts stressed that the issue is important for those who want to preserve the heritage of San Diego, which includes the La Jolla cross. Donations for that cause are being taken by both radio announcers and SoledadNational.com.

Roberts also is a regular guest host for Michael Savage's nationally syndicated radio show. Hedgecock substitutes for Rush Limbaugh occasionally. Coleman will be inducted this summer in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a radio announcer.

You're welcome.I used to love listening to the Padres games on KFMB, when Jerry Coleman and Dave Campbell did the play by play.

This seems like a meeger way to slow the revenue stream into the ACLU. It would be welcome if a method to short circuit the money stream into the ACLU were devised. I know this monster feeds on the monetary judgements it receives. It also lives off of donations. We need to starve it. Sort of the way we use chemo on cancer cells. Anyone have any ideas?

"In Massachusetts when we go "Code Orange" it is because John Kerry went to the tanning salon that day!"

LoLoLoLo. The one good thing that came out of sKerry's running for president was, the entire world could see what a superficial, self-loving, imbecilic, orange-faced orangutan he is.

Oh, boy, c-span just advertised that it will show repeats of speeches by Jesse Jackson and Kim Gandy and Bernie Sanders later tonight---

I would rather have white-hot needles shoved under my fingernails than listen to those cretins. I'd probably have nightmares and start hitting J, in my sleep.

The ACLU is funded with tax payer dollars and it is about time to cut off the funds or create a watch dog group to oversea their use of funding. A board containing equal conservatives and liberals to vote on what actions the ACLU can pursue. This would neutralize them as a liberal tool.

The most affective way to deal with them is to cut off the funding period since they have displayed a clear bias against the majority opinion in America. The same goes for PBS and any other tax payer supported outfits. We need a national referendum on their existence placed on the 2006 or 2008 elections.

As you know, I was born here, and this chit has been raging for years. Like you, I'm leaving with it unresolved too. Damn a-holes. They don't really give a rip, they just want to deny everyone else.

"Replace those buffoons in the Court and all will be well."

That sums it up nicely for me. This is why it is so critical right now to support President Bush's judicial nominees. STAT!

You know the ACLU must have prospective law suits hanging on them like moonbats in the moon light.. must be some way to use the morphed legal system they have given us against them..

Sueing them for all their worth.. would be a such a good vibe.. Probably make the talk shows too.. Most of america would clap and dance.. Putting them in the witness chair.. Arrogance cross examined would En-Queeg them like Humphery Bogart whining about Srawberries..

OH! for a really really pissed off lawyer.. that wants to make name for him'herself..

Ironically, if they had some spirituality in their lives, they'd realize how trivial this is.

Learn your history, sir. The ACLU have been nothing BUT Marxists from their inception. Don't accept my word for it; read Donohue's ''The Politics of the ACLU'' (1987), or indeed any non-agenda-driven (from either side) narrative of the history of this organisation.

The founder of this uniquely and utterly anti-American organisation, Roger Baldwin, quoted Lenin frequently and publicly, both in speeches and in his writing...and, no, he did not cite Ulyanov's revolutionary ''initiatives'' in Russia as a negative example, either.

Now, they're just Commie hacks.???

You're just 80-odd years too late with that observation, mate.

I've never heard of him before this thread. Is he powerful?
