ACLU threatens talk-show hosts over cross - (Roger Hedgecock, Rick Roberts threatened)
WORLD NET DAILY.COM ^ | JUNE 3, 2005 | James L. Lambert

Posted on 06/03/2005 6:54:24 PM PDT by CHARLITE

The ACLU, representing an atheist, is threatening five San Diego-area personalities with legal action over the proposed wording of a ballot initiative that will determine the fate of a historic cross on city land.

The five behind the Mt. Soledad initiative are KFMB radio talk-show host Rick Roberts; KOGO radio talk-show host Roger Hedgecock; San Diego Padres radio announcer Jerry Coleman, Rep. Randy Cunningham, R-Calif.; and SoledadNational.com Director Phil Thalmeimer.

The attorney for atheist Philip Paulson, James McElroy, has told the men he will file the challenge next week.

McElroy claims that a number of their statements on the ballot, prepared for the July 26 city-wide vote, are "false and misleading."

Some statements at issue include, "as in the case with Mount Soledad, wherever veterans are honored with the symbols of the fallen, an intolerant few will launch frivolous lawsuits that waste our tax dollars … ."

Another statement under challenge is, "in 2004, the president of the United States signed legislation designating the Mount Soledad site as a 'National War Memorial,' necessitating the land transfer."

McElroy also objects to the sentence, "Vote Yes to transfer the land to the federal government and to permanently preserve Mount Soledad -- as it is where it is."

Last month, the San Diego City Council allowed voters to decide the fate of the historic cross, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean in nearby La Jolla. The legal battles date back to 1989.

Roberts said today he and the others "will defend the wording in court."

While there has been "a legal challenge against all five of us, I think we will prevail in court," he said.

Roberts stressed that the issue is important for those who want to preserve the heritage of San Diego, which includes the La Jolla cross. Donations for that cause are being taken by both radio announcers and SoledadNational.com.

Roberts also is a regular guest host for Michael Savage's nationally syndicated radio show. Hedgecock substitutes for Rush Limbaugh occasionally. Coleman will be inducted this summer in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a radio announcer.

Yes, if it's the same Jerry Coleman, he probably would be over 80...maybe it's a completely different unrelated person, or maybe it's Junior?

I guess Muslim blood is okay on the koran, not heathen urine...

The Muslims in these Middle East countries have just got to be so indoctrinated and beaten down. How else to explain them just standing around accepting that their own people are blowing their family members, friends, policemen, children up?

I might accept a reluctance on the part of the Muslims IN Iraq and Afghanistan right now---better to not let the terrorists know how you feel sometimes, BUT...

That doesn't explain the Muslims in America and other countries that don't have to worry about a sucide bomber driving into their homes, or walking into their mosques...

To ME, that is at least as indicative of the evil this "religion" is as the beheadings....when a religion causes men and women to use children to blow themselves and others up, it is sick, sick, sick evil and needs to be extinguised.

Rick and Roger have been on each other's programs today. They were never friendly when at the same station and so with them on rival talk stations, this is a major coming togther to do good with the People of San Diego.

This morning on his 760KFMB (6am-10am Pacific) Rick raised close to $40,000 for the Mt. Soledad War Memorial Association's cause. Roger will continue that fundraising effort next week on his own show on 600KOGO from 3pm to 6pm (Pacific).

Speculation is the lawsuit is designed to drain funding from the effort so the ACLU and the scrum Atheist Paulson who has fought this for fifteen years can once again find a judge to reject the will of the people of San Diego who twice before voted to transfer the area to a non-profit as ordered by courts only to have those void by the courts in a cycle that hopefully will end with the vote in July--that's YES on Prop A to save the Mt. Soledad War Memorial and transferring the land to the Feds as already authorized by Congress and Bush earlier this year.

You're probably right that symbols at national cemeteries are next on their hit list. With my own father buried at one, that doesn't sit well with me at all.

The interesting this is they've NEVER gone after the Shinto bell in the city's Balboa Park. That shrine was blessed at the dedication ceremony by Shinto priests who came over from Japan!! There are other examples of this hypocrisy by the Atheist fascists / ACLU and their zeroing in on Christian symbols.

It is just to scary for me to contemplate what the future will be like for my two granddaughters if the Republicans don't stay in the White House...

BUT, I also want to see the Republicans STOP trying to be so politically correct, that they don't stop what is being done right here on American soil---

When a local government will stand by and let a group like the atheists remove a cross from land that the public uses, a public that is a huge percentage Christian, then it is indicative the our country is being "taken over" from within.

ACLU:

Anti Christian Leftist Union

Question: Is the ACLU a tax exempt non profit organization? If so, can't we seek to have its tax exempt status revoked given that this is a blatantly political organization and therefore not entitled to tax exempt status?

Just a thought.

Just to clear it up: It *is* the same Jerry Coleman. He'll be 81 in September and is soon to join the baseball hall of fame (as a broadcaster). He was with the Yankees as a player from 49 to 57 and was in the Marines as well. From an online bio... Lt. Colonel Coleman flew a total of 120 combat missions in World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 13 Air Medals, and three Navy Citations.

No, it's the same one - he used to be a player before he became a announcer. I'll bet he could still go out there and hit .175, just like the old days...

I look at my kids and worry what kind of country they will inherit.

If there is one thing that will bring this country to it's knees...it's PC. I'm fed up with it. Our borders are wide open; the Mexicans say will reclaim the Southwestern US; the terrorist say they will destroy the entire country; the leftist politicians want a socialist United States; the schools want to indoctrinate our children to the way of fags; free speech is just about to kick the bucket; the UN wants control of our tax dollars; God is being driven from every corner of this great nation by the atheist; everyday, someone is trying to take our second amendment from us; and to rub salt in the wound...the Hildabeast wants to be president of a socialist, Godless, spanish speaking, dhimmitude American citizens with uneducated children, supported by the UN.

But, all in all...it could be worse.

BTW, I have on c-span right now and they are showing a replay of a speech that Mitt Romney gave in New Hampshire tonight...

I am sure he is going to run for POTUS---

Anyway, just like all speeches, he opened with jokes---the only one I sorta laughed at was this one:

"In Massachusetts when we go "Code Orange" it is because John Kerry went to the tanning salon that day!"
