The Navy reservist article is very troubling.
I just tried to find anything else on him and found nothing.
Seems like he's been on many bases and with forged documents!!!! Where is our security??
Now, prior to 9/11 AQ was likely already seeking material or suitcase nukes... there have been several stories about this, the authenticity is unknown, but many experts (including Michael Scheuer - former head of the CIA bin Laden unit) believe the tales to be legit. So, if they had the material/weapon, why not use it? Simple... the time was not right, and they wanted to give America the chance to save itself (or at least the appearance of that chance) from what they believe is the inevitable destruction of our country.
Bin Laden took some heat from different circles that he did not give us enough warning of 9/11. There was never a legal ruling, or fatwa, issued against the U.S. by anyone other than himself... and he is not a cleric. Since 9/11, bin Laden and his top aides have been meticilously laying out their reasoning for the attacks, and have given us ways to prevent a future... more catastrophic one. Last year, when Imperial Hubris came out, Scheuer stated the following on CBS' 60 Minutes.
"He [bin Laden] secured from a Saudi sheik named Hamid bin Fahd a rather long treatise on the possibility of using nuclear weapons against the Americans. Specifically, nuclear weapons," says Scheuer. "And the treatise found that he was perfectly within his rights to use them. Muslims argue that the United States is responsible for millions of dead Muslims around the world, so reciprocity would mean you could kill millions of Americans."

So, at this point... it would seem that it would be legitimate for AQ to use a nuke.
Now, does AQ really have the capability? Who knows for sure, but there is certainly enough material floating around out there for trained scientists to put together a crude nuclear weapon. Would these scientists, largely Pakistani Muslims, use their know how to create a device, or service an old one, for AQ to use? Good question. We could look back to Kadeer Khan who said, "All Western countries, including Israel, are not only the enemies of Pakistan but, in fact, of Islam. (Link)" Rhetoric, or a true statement? I guess we will find out someday.
As far as Pak/Russian scientists working for AQ... several sources have claimed this to be true as well, including a book I read (linked in the last paragraph) called Osama's Revenge. Here are some quotes:
"But Pakistan's community of nuclear scientists and technicians remains "profoundly fundamentalist" and anti-American. They remain particularly resentful of the economic and military sanctions against Pakistan's nuclear weapons program that were imposed by the Bush Administration following the discoveries of proliferation."
"Intelligence sources have confirmed that SPETSNAZ officials from the former Soviet Union were on bin Laden's payroll from 1996 to 2001 to maintain and prepare the nuclear suitcases for activation. Moreover, following the invasion of Afghanistan and the loss of his laboratories, bin Laden reportedly sought out and obtained the technical assistance of twelve leading Pakistani scientists, including Dr. Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood, Dr. Chaudry Abdul Najid, and Dr. Mirza Ysus Baig. On November 25, 2001, Taliban leader Mullah Omar assured BBC reporters that the nuclear destruction of the United States was well underway. 'The plan is going ahead and, God Willing, it is being implemented. But it is a huge task, which is beyond the will and comprehension of human beings. If God's help is with us, this will happen within a short period of time; keep in mind this prediction."

I'll finish this post with a quote from another good article on the subject... it goes into the relatively simple process of creating a nuclear weapon these days, as well as other general information:
Before and after the 2004 elections, Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al Zawahiri issued "final chance" warnings to Americans that some watchers have interpreted as an Islamic gesture made in order to justify the future use of weapons of mass destruction. (Al Qaeda was criticized by some radical clerics for not issuing such a warning before 9/11.) As for which kind of weapons might be used, two al Qaeda-linked militants captured by German intelligence in January were recorded discussing locations at which uranium could be acquired. While it's nice to know this particular cell was still looking, they weren't the first to seek such a purchase, and they won't be the last.
Thank you for the ping, freeperfromnj!
Some is probably true. Some definitely not. All of it is ripped off from other people's books/articles from many years ago (most pre-9/11). It is a sloppy cut-and-paste job of the most sensationalistic threats that have made the rounds. The off-the-chart idiocy of "smuggling sleepers" is the most glaring. Not sure if it is Farrah or Williams to blame as nothing is sourced (like they figured all this out themselves).
You cannot "smuggle" sleepers. Sleepers spend years, sometimes decades building legitimate lives for themselves here and stay out of contact from their network until they are activated. (They stay dormant for a decade or more before acting. That is why they are called "sleepers", because they "sleep" until they are "awakened".)
This is probably why the Brits are having problems rounding up suspects - - they may be "sleepers". These guys have been off the grid for years probably - - deliberately not going to suspect mosques, hanging out with jihadis, or doing anything else to bring attention to themselves, especially flying into London recently from Afghanistan or something like that.
Yosef Bodansky wrote on the Chechens and the Zawahiri nuclear connection in the mid-1990s. Vasili Mitrokhin wrote in the late 1990s on the possibility Spetznaz prepositioned nukes in the US. Hamid Mir interviewed UBL and was the source for the 2001 suitcase nuke story. Neither Farrah or Williams sourced any of these stories. Shameless.
Sometimes a poor messenger can discredit an important message.
Another site spread the word a year or so ago that there were 35-40 nukes here. Things like that are so over-the-top ludicrous that folks then throw the baby out with the bathwater (as they seem to do on the other thread).
The idea of smuggling 40 nukes betrays such blithering ignorance of how the world works that it isn't worth discussing. But 3-4 is within the realm of reason . . .

2005 London = 4 attacks (3 underground; 1 bus bomber who did not make it to the target)

That other expert reported yesterday that the major attack on the US will occur within the next 90 days or so....
OK, IF we have the timing, the method, and the potential cities reasonably pinned down....what moves to take next?
Add in public trans as location for said nukes?
I believe your excellent summary to be true. Now, what steps can be taken to ensure that these nukes-apparently some assembled already- are NOT detonated?
Hi SlowBoat407.
I hope you had a grat vacation.
Glad you're back.
"When this column first highlighted MS13 a year ago, many were skeptical of the police estimates of 3,000 active gang members in the northern Virginia suburbs. Now, a half-dozen murders, scores of cuttings and unreported beatings later, it is believed that there are 6,000 members in the region just south of D.C."
Wonder if these were the gang members paid to bring in the nukes for AQ.....transport them just like drugs...and several would conveniently end up in the DC area...possibly to be placed in the Metro.... (just speculating)

We've seen reports in our local paper that MS13 is "representin'" in the Hampton Roads area of VA as well. I believe that anywhere they start to show their tattoos, we should expect a present from AQ.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Al-Qaida's nuclear plot -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: July 11, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2005 WorldNetDaily.com In a shocking report today, WND reveals to the American people a diabolical plot officials such as President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former Attorney General John Ashcroft and former Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge already know about. Al-Qaida not only has nuclear weapons lots of them but the terrorist organization has used the lax U.S.-Mexico border security to smuggle them and their sleeper agents into this country for the purpose of killing millions of Americans, destroying the U.S. economy and, in effect, winning its war against the West.
The 4! Remember all the "4" jihadi messages back in 2003?
4 by sea, 4 in the air, etc. Some of these "4" posts added on a reference to continuing on to the "trained Manhattan" which was even before Madrid.

Thanks for the ping to All4ones post.
I am furious about the ex naval reserve guy that has been traveling base to base with forged freaking documents! Plus he had a list of contacts names and numbers in various mooselimb countries???
Just hang him high after getting every last bit of info out of him by any and all means!
OFF TOPIC...
I'm so sorry granny about the effects of those threatments.
I'm glad you're getting treatement, though.
My personal upset stomach treatment for me (no cancer, just
my personal preferences):
tea with a spoonful of sugar
AND one of these:
plain saltine crackers
dry toast
fat-free big pretzels
white rice
AND maybe sucking on:
sugar-free lifesavers or other candy
with a preference for old-fashioned
lemon drops (not sugar-free)
Well- time to go take my new Big Kitty to the vet---animal shelter rescue- he's 26 pounds and desperately in need of help losing that excess so he can play like a kitty again.
Prayers for all. All this nuclear terrorism stuff coming up all at once, plus that article yesterday about the hit being on mass transit, cells shut down in the tunnels...someone is taking this seriously.
IMO shutting down the borders may well be too late, but DO IT!
Makes you wonder how safe our military bases are doesn't it?
Anyone with forged documents can get in and travel for free as well. Downright disgusting!
