Freeper research wanted: Can we estimate Felt's FBI pension? Is he being abused by his daughter?
one man's opinion

Posted on 06/02/2005 11:18:04 AM PDT by ken5050

Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.

Everyone from the 70's is coming out of the woodwork. Coming up on Scarborough Country (which I never usually watch) is Richard Nixon's brother.

Didn't he get caught taking a bribe from Howard Hughes?

I agree with you.

Felt and Woodward had a pact to remain anonymous until Felt died and it was said directly today. So let's say that Felt died 10 years ago. Would it have come out? I bet not. The Statute of Limitions was the trigger not death.

Wonder how much Woodward paid Felt under the table every year and where the accounts are. Maybe that explains her being oh so willing to say "we could use the money". They'll just mix in the old "hidden" Felt payoff money. Voila...Very clever.

Yep. How many brothers did Nixon have? This one was touted as the "last remaining brother" of Nixon. Nixon, LBJ, and Carter all had brothers whom they had to keep out of the public eye. LOL

You're right: "Not exactly his obligation".

I wish there were a way, some way, for me to "share" what North San Francisco (Dem country) is like. What the people are like. There is absolutely no comparison to anything I've seen in any of the other states. We're talking "abortion" "country". We're talking D-Lynn Woolsey. We're talking.. "grief therapy". We're talking, bottom line, massive co-dependency on orders just not seen anywhere else, IMHO.

I don't know where Ken5050, the thread originator is located, but I saw absolutely NOTHING unreasonable in what he was asking. I know I just want to follow any money made off this book. And where it ends up in Santa Rosa (and therein). Some of the most vocal people-turned-Republican I met were in that locale, also in Cazadero, prime commune country. Why? They are so horrified by how NUTS their "community" is.

Asking where Joan's "hubby" or the bio-father of her children is, is not out of bounds. Wondering whether Felt molested the children and this was her payback is not out of bounds -- for Santa Rosa. It's just the way it is there.

And it didn't used to be like this. And the land is to die for; it is so beautiful. The people in Nor San Francisco live in this very twisted little "community" unlike elsewhere in the US. They are so secluded from every other place on the Earth; and think of themselves as so lettered in "other places".

Let's put this another way, I would chew my own foot off before I'd "encourage" my own dad to put himself through this kind of deathbed "confession" to the world. The whole story is disgusting and macabre.

And from all press accounts, the grandchildren seem very much like their ma. Maybe these kids are going to the new "FREEDOM" College that has begun to spring up around the SF Bay Area. It's isn't just liberal; it's open MARXISM. Maybe that's why the need the money so badly.

But! And sorry for the wind here... IF the Mother (Joan) and her Children are coming off this way, perhaps ... the acorn(s) isn't falling too far from the tree.

The Democrat Mentality is: The world Owes me a living. Joan is saying that. The Grandchildren are saying that. The MSM says it.

In the weird twisted world of Santa Rosa Liberalism; yes, those grandchildren ARE his obligation. As he is their's.

Punchline coming... I mean.. it's not like they can inherit his Social Security under the current system, er, anything....

I didn't watch Hardball.

I am breaking my Hardball boycott this week because I know he's covering this Watergate business and I am interested.

Since you didn't watch tonight you missed Leslie Stahl reveal that she was dating Bob Woodward during the time he was dealing with Deep Throat.

She was with CBS way back then, too, and said he didn't tell her a name but she knew he met an informant in a parking garage. She always thought it was Al Haig.

When she whined to Chris about Haig writing her a nasty letter once about it, even Chris pointed out that since she was wrong, Haig would be rightfully irked.

LOL

I remember my Dad raging at the talking heads on the news every night. Especially Rather. He HATED Rather. The 60's and 70's were tough on our parents who had fought a war and come home to make a life. Vietnam, LBJ, Watergate; my father was p.o'd all the time and for good reason.

You're absolutely right. And it infuriates me. The nerve of these people to butt their noses in and make judgements based on absolutely nothing. It's appalling, and so counter to what they pretend to stand for.

I don't know.

I would be willing to bet some of the "payoff" money came from somewhere other than the U.S.

I saw the Amber Fry movie on TV. She was one brave girl to come forward and to not make the mistake of running to his side. I wish her all good things.

When I read the quote last night from this lawyer so dismissively citing Frey I was truly outraged. This guy represents the daughter of Felt. I couldn't believe he had the nerve to draw some kind of comparison to anyone like that, but it is so telling.

If I was inclined to look kindly upon Joan Felt, the lawyer's attitude only served to harden me against her.

So Felt scrwed Nixon AND Woodward...........LOL.

I guess it is better the second time around. I have a feeling it was Woodward who was doing the screwing. He used Felt to further his own career ambitions. He should be thankful that Felt did not disclose his identity until now. If Felt had done it 25 years ago, he would be a wealthy man from speaking fees and book deals. W&B would have been seen as the stenographers they were.

She also asked Woodward to write a book with her daddy; when he refused, they went to People Magazine, demanding so much money that the guy who was going to write the article -- imagine how famous HE would have been -- told People to back off the story because they were so greedy.

What's wrong with any of this? So, she wants money...she'll get what the market will pay. Don't we live in the US? Are you saying she shouldn't go after it if she can get it? I don't understand this at all. If W&B got $5mil for their papers, why wouldn't she expect to get a nice paycheck for her Father's story? I'm confused...help me out here.

I would bet that Woodward paid Felt nothing. Woodward probably used the disclosure of his name as a form of blackmail, especially if Felt believed that he did something wrong. The family finally woke up and discovered that their dad/grandfather was being used to make W&B wealthy. They realized that the only shot they had to make some money was to go public before the old man died. Once he died, W&B would be the only ones to tell the story.

Unfortunately, Felt appears to be in bad physcial condition and not very lucid. For his family's sake, I hope that Felt wrote some things down.

I'm loving this!

I need more popcorn.

Oh, by the way...Dan Rather says the phony Bush story that he reported is TRUE. "Larry King is still Alive" is eating it up. Maybe that is why their 20th. Anniversary week is tanking to the Keith Olberman level. lol!

Don't forget to watch "Larry King is still Alive" tomorrow night because Baba WaWa will be interviewing NON OTHER than Larry King!

You know I thought conservatives were for not nosing into other peoples' business, especially those that were not running for or occupying a political office. At one time that in some way applied to Republicans as well. Guess those days are gone.

If he were your Father, you probably wouldn't be the person you are. There are people who do think he's a hero. And I'm sure his daughter is one of them.
