Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.

Mr. Felt is a Navy veteran and that service counts toward total Federal service. He had to do something between 1931 and 1942. I suspect that was Navy time. So now we may have a super grade GS-18 with over 40 years Federal service. I think the guy is pulling down over $10,000 per month. Even in California that should pay the bills unless someone has a very bad habit.

His Navy time would count in computing his pension. I wasn't aware of his service. Do you know for how long he served in the Navy? I don't know if he is pulling down $10K a month. As I indicated in post, I made a number of assumptions. I would have to use the SS COLA table to get a more accurate estimate of his pension.

The point was that your knowledge of the federal retirement system seemed very typical of folks living around the DC area. I would have used the same approach you did to computing his pension in fact.

My knowledge comes from the fact that I am a retired federal employee with 36 years of service. It has nothing to do with where I live.

So is Felt the Fall Guy? If he was so darned proud of 'helping to uncover corruption', why didn't he brag about it long ago when he surely would've been lauded by the Left? Then again, if he is indeed DT, was he paid to keep it a secret all these years? By Woodward and Bernstein or someone else?

More than likely, Felt kept it secret because he feared possible prosecution.

I can understand why his family now wants a piece of the action. His daughter probably read about the sale of W&B's sale of the Watergate papers to the University of Texas for $5 million. When her father dies, Woodward was going to have another big pay day with his book revealing who Deep Throat was.

Actually, the co-author of the Felt book said that Felt "revealed himself as Deep Throat" about two years ago when he called the author about rereleasing the book or writing another one.

He's making far more than he ever made as salary, he retired well over 20 years ago and is 87 today.

This is true; this week I feel the same way I felt when I realized that most of my opinions about Vietnam were manipulated by John Kerry.

Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper. Our only excuse has to be that we just didn't understand how it was all coming down.

And when you think about the options and access we have now, not to mention the information at our fingertips, it's not all that hard to understand why the liberals and their pals, the MSM, are apopletic all the time, is it?
