Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.
That may well be correct. I don't know..But the image being portrayed in the media is of a needy family..
Yes, you are wrong. Do you know how hard it is to take care of a parent? Why must you guys always jump to the negative assumption? I don't blame her for wanting to cash in. Woodward and Bernstein are making a fortune out of essentially his story. Putting your feelings about the actual story aside, I think you'd all do the same exact thing.
But it can be darned hard and expensive to find good ones.
I agree with you on that, I would imagine he qualifies for a nice hefty pension.
They were saying "greedy", not "needy", although they may well be "needy" in addition.
Bump
I do. In the plural. And I think ken's asked a good question.
Ken, if you ask any elderly person if they'd rather live in a facility or with a loved one, believe me, they'd pick a loved one. Why do you have to make this a story about abuse. She's taken care of a parent for over 20 years. I'd say that qualifies for Sainthood.
Yes, sometimes they are costly, but the best are usually FREE.
With what goes on in this country at this time in history it is highly probable. It happens all the time with the elderly. They will write a check to almost anyone that they have the slightest trust in. Happens more than people think, both from relatives and non relatives.
LOL! In California we had a 1700 sf. house with a living room, family room, 4 bedrooms and still we converted the garage and did most of our living in it. :-)
It's a cruel and unfair question. Like, "how often do you beat your wife." There's no evidence...nothing. Just because she thinks that if there's money to be made, he should make it, doesn't mean she's an abuser. It means she's a capitalist. Something I'm sure you all know a thing or two about.
You mean the one with the HUGE sh*t eating grin soooo very pleased with all the media at her home?
I smell ozone
Whoa..rephrase your question..if the choice is between living comfortable in a nice senior care facility, or living shabbily in a basement..without any amenities or care..when it's his pension paying for it..and he''s incapable of making an informe decision..that a whole other question...we don't know..."Care" could mean feeding him three times a days..no more...we don't know..
She's a daughter. She loves her Father. She probably thinks what her father did was heroic. Why can't you understand that? Tricia and Julie Nixon thought their Father was heroic. My point is this is a low blow from a forum like this to accuse somebody of elderly abuse when there is absolutely no evidence.
But when there's only one of you and you're blessed to have more than one of them, help helps :)
Why do you assume he lives shabbily? That's my problem with this "question" of yours. A converted garage is an apartment? My stepson lives in a converted garage and it's gorgeous.
I can't help but agree with you. I converted our Garage into a nice bedroom for my mother in law and we take excellent care of her. It's how a family should be
OK..let me ask you..suppose we found out today that he is receiving $6000/month..which it well might be with 25 years of COLA..which disappears when he dies, BTW..do you think that he's getting $6 grand a month value..ball's back in your court, my friend..
