Polish TV crew in trouble in Russia 02.06.2005

A Polish diplomat from the Moscow Embassy has gone to Ingushetia to investigate the curcumstances of the detention in Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, of three Polish television journalists. After an 8-hour questioning, they had their video cassettes confiscated and were handed over to the Russian Federation security services. They were accused of filming without permission in the region of troops stationing in North Caucasus.

Every reasonable person who reads news from different media is aware that in Chechnya there were, are, and most likely will be some Al-Qaida operatives. A common fact. You must be also aware that if it weren't for Russia and it's totaly unprofessional actions most of the todays terrorists wouldn't even think of blewing themselves up in the middle of a crowd of innocent civilians.

Okay, so you're another apologist for the poor down and out terrorists. FACT, Chechens were trained in guerrilla warfare in Afghanistan during the eighties. FACT, MANY of them were and are members of al-Qaeda. Indeed, outside of the Saudis they likely make up the largest contingent of al-Qaeda.

I grant you the Russians do not have a professional army, and that caused many of the problems, but to say they were responsible for the Chechen War is a bald faced lie. Neither did America have a professional army until the late eighties, and expecting the Russians to measure up to them is asking a lot.

Al Qaeda was and is probably operating in Chechenya. True. Chechens also compained about the Arab terrorists in their country invited by their government before the conflict with Russia. True. It is Basayev that was responsible for the invited terrorists, and if he was not part of the government, maybe the situation may have been something different. Meanwhile, the counter terrorism operation does not justify Russia's act to deny rights of declaration of independence and its sovereignty for ever. The difference between US in Iraq and Afghanistan with Russia in Chechenya is that our country will not occupy them under our influence for ever, and the sovereignty will be given to the people respecting their independence. On the other hand, Russia continues to occupy Chechenya, without any coalition force or third party to be in charge to guarantee democracy and freedom of speech. At least I don't see any. Unless Russia guarantees Chechenya for its independence, or at least allow third party to monitor the political process of the new government, it is nothing but a puppet government. Foreign election monitoring groups have monitored the elections of Afghanistan and Iraq, with some criticism but also stating it satisfactory. On the other hand, Chechenya's election was claimed invalid. This is the difference of Iraq, Afghanistan and the case of Chechenya. It does not mean that anti-Russia militants with terrorist elements are justified, but there is also a problem with Russia in its tactics dealing with reconstruction of Chechenya with indications of flawed election and denying sovereignty to declare independence. We should also not forget that Russia opposed Iraq War that indicates their double standard. We should also not forget Russia tried to interfere in elections of Ukraine, and now in Belarus. This will not be tolerated.

Try video taping Ft. Bragg without permission, the MPs will have you on your face and in handcuffs before you can sneeze.

Fake accusations, to justify this illegal action.

Oh, so you were there and you know this for a fact? Or is this a typical opinion of yours grounded in jello? I'll vote for the jello.

1. I guess you've missed the various attacks in Ingushia, to bad.

2. Filming the military without permission in most nations, including America, is illegal.

Try again to excuse their actions. I guess nothing that is done by poles is wrong, even when it is.

Don't forget that Russia is responsible for creating those terrorist...I wouldn't compare most of the Chechens with Al-Qaida. The war in Chechnya is different from that one in Iraq.

Welp, there goes your credibility. We'll be sure to tell this to the Chechins in Gitmo and the dead ones in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. I'm sure the Chechin who blew himself up with the USS Cole would be happy to hear you too.

I don't know what you mean. By whom? USA? And I don't know how you can mix terrorism with guerrilla warfare (especially during Chechen War I)

MANY of them were and are members of al-QaedaIf you consider all military groups of religious background as members of al-Qaeda than you are probably right.

Indeed, outside of the Saudis they likely make up the largest contingent of al-Qaeda.

I find it unlikely. The charakter of Chechen islam is way different...Did you know for instance that in Chechenya women have a very high status? During the I war there was some intense fighting with russian army but no terrorism. They were fighting for freedom. The Poles understand that well.

I grant you the Russians do not have a professional army, and that caused many of the problems, but to say they were responsible for the Chechen War is a bald faced lie. Neither did America have a professional army until the late eighties, and expecting the Russians to measure up to them is asking a lot.

Don't compare those two armies. I mean US from 80's and todays Russian military.

Well we'd better set the example for Russia and free the South and Hawaii and give the Indians back their lands too. I'm sure the analogy is lost.

This is the difference of Iraq, Afghanistan and the case of Chechenya.

Due try to understand something: Chechnya is about as sovereign as Kentucky or Guam.

It's a matter of scale. If you don't understand that there goes your credibility

Yeah, those evil Russians want to exterminate the Chechins, that's why Chechins run the province and Chechin militias do most of the fighting. That's why 200,000 out of 700,000 Chechins live in Moscow, even after 10 years of this war. Yup, all about extermination. The scale is of hypocracy: how much certain "Christian" nations love to support Al Quada operatives.

About three years ago, a Polish film crew was detained near Fort Knox for filming the base's main gates. I think they were doing a documentary on the Gold Vault, but they should have used common sense when taking photos of an American military base in the months following 9-11.

I never said I support Al-Qaida operatives. I support oridinary Chechens and their right to live free and now to live at all.

I never said the Russians want to exterminate the Chechen nation. What I said is that because of the lack of controll an d unprofessionalizm of the russian troops there are series of "incidents" - executions the Chechens in Chechnya may be exterminated indeed. Exaggeration? Yes, in a way. Try to read carefully and understand what your interlocutor means...

Thanks for the information. That is pretty interesting.

A couple years ago when one of my nephews graduated basic at Fort Jackson, a bunch of us went over there and we were told where we could take pictures and where we could not. In fact, I think I still have the handout we were given someplace in my storage stuff.

Picture taking, even around a training camp like Jackson was pretty strict, especially after 9/11.

I don't know what you mean. By whom? USA?

The USA supplied and provided some training to the Afgans, but the Afgan guerrillas trained the Chechens.

And I don't know how you can mix terrorism with guerrilla warfare (especially during Chechen War I)

::::Looking at the sky in amazement:::::
For your information terrorism is a very big factor in all guerrilla wars.

I find it unlikely. The charakter of Chechen islam is way different...Did you know for instance that in Chechenya women have a very high status? During the I war there was some intense fighting with russian army but no terrorism. They were fighting for freedom. The Poles understand that well.

You're talking to an expert on guerrilla warfare, insurgency, and counterinsurgency. Yes, yes, everyone fights for freedom, Castro, Che Guevara, etc. Disinformation is one of the guerrillas biggest tools, and if you believe that nonsense then you are a total fool. Believe me when I say the Chechens are one of the biggest supporters of al-Qaeda. The Poles on this list are naive on this subject.

Don't compare those two armies. I mean US from 80's and todays Russian military.

The US Army during the Vietnam War was composed of draftees, and the difference between then and our professional army today is night and day. The Russian army is composed of draftees, and I suspect would measure up to the army we had in the sixties.

So what is terrorism? And where is terrorism when we talk about guerrilla warfare?
