Senator Tom Harkin calls Christians the Taliban
6/2/05

This should have really been news and had the words been uttered by a Republican, it surely would be.

I occasionally listen to a left wing radio show to see what the daily whine is. The other day I was listening to Randy Rhodes (spelling?) and her guest was senator Tom Harkin. The disussion turned to Christian radio and senator Harkin made a comment to the effect of The Christin right is America's own home grown version of the Taliban. I took a double take at my radio, shocked at what I just heard. No matter how radical some groups in this country may be they can hardly be compared to the Taliban. I would have loved to see this in the news the next day and watch this poor excuse for a senator try tio back pedal away from those comments. But of course after waiting a few days, I can see that isn't going to happen. Just thought I would let my friends at Free Republic know about it. Maybe someone here knows someone who can make this news worthy.

You should ask the Moderator to fix your title (i.e Christian vs. Chritians)

Outside of the wackjobs at the primitive Baptist church down the road from me, I'd have to disagree with the Senator.

Outside the fact that the primitive Baptists are probably fanatics, I'm sure they don't disembowel their women or sever the heads of 'nonbelievers'.

"Primitive Baptists." That denomination name always cracks me up. I picture them sitting there, in their animal skins, on stone benches, punding their clubs to the tune of... no, I can't.

And the Democrats think that they are going to win back southern states with this hatefull speech? Keep talking Tom Harkin, Howard Dean and the all the rest of the kook fringe Democrats. It will be a cold day in hell before you win another national election again in this country.

I can promise you even "the wackjobs at the primitive Baptist church down the road" don't execute people for not being Baptist.

Intemperate comments might be fun, but I find pissing in the well today has a bad habit of affecting the taste of your coffee tomorrow.

Primitive Baptists do not advocate beheading women who date outside of their sect.

Out of curiousity - what makes a Baptist church "primitive"?

Tom Harkin is about as relevant to anything as John Kerry, or Bill Clinton for that matter. He is the Al Franken of the US Senate - a blowhard do-nothing with little talent but a disproportionate ego. Does anyone outside of, say Iowa City, care what Tom Harkin says? I don't.

I try to listen to left wing radio but can't. They don't make me mad or make me think. No intellectual stimulation at all, just constant rancid leftover Democrat taking points. Their "humor" segments come off as childish and annoying. They need to put a warning on every leftist show "Warning. May cause drowsiness. If affected do not drive or operate machinery." They say we're afraid of liberal shows. I am when other drivers will be put to sleep by them.

Wish I did have the audio, I was driving in my van. Maybe a transcript can be acquired.

For those who say they don't care what Tom Harkins says, I understand what your saying but this is a Senator, not the mayor of some two bit town. His feet should be held to the fire. All in all though it is probably best that these left wing nuts keep spouting all this hate talk because in the end they are just alienating any of the remaining left wing voters with brains.

Out of curiousity - what makes a Baptist church "primitive"?

-Outdated family structure of husband leading household, wife raising children
-Crazy belief unborn children have a God given right to live
-Rediculous idea that the Bible is God's truth
-World-is-flat opinion that humans didnt come from monkeys

I could go on....but im too "primitive".
