UNITED NATIONS -- U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan fired a staffer for his role in the Iraq oil-for-food scandal, a spokesman said Wednesday, describing the first dismissal stemming from alleged corruption in the multibillion-dollar program.
Joseph Stephanides, dismissed Tuesday, was the first U.N. official said to be fired in the wake of an independent probe into allegations of wrongdoing in the $64 billion program.
The United Nations had accused Stephanides, head of the U.N. Security Council Affairs Division, of interfering in the competitive bidding process for an oil-for-food contract.
Annan concluded that Stephanides had committed "serious misconduct," U.N. associate spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

Patsy.
They should do it right fire Kofi& and his ilk. NSNR
Got fired for getting caught! When's Anon Kreepy getting it?
USA OUT OF UN! NOW!
Yep, I'll echo your feelings. Yo, Koffi, buddy, I'm waiting for your pink slip too.
So now that Koffee-cup Annan has rooted out the bad apple, the poor victims of the UN can put this whole sordid affair behind them and get back to saving the world.
Well ! I'm glad that's settled.
Someone inside the UN should do a "Mark Felt" on Kofi.
Oh if only there was one. But they are all corrupt.
You would think that one person in the know would be willing to sell out for fame or fortune, or both.
We have already answered those allegations and taken corrective actions. Old news. Move on. Doing the people's (republics) work. Can't we all just get along. VRWC. For the children. Health Care!
Shoot the innocent peasants and give the guilty king a pass.
Yeah, they are, but sooner or later one of them is going to figure out that getting fired is only the first step. When that happens they may decide their best defense is to rat out the higher ups.
well i'm glad that's settled. now we can all move on.

If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
Knew too much?
lets hope Stephanides makes trouble for Annan.
I won't be satisfied until Annon is on the unemployment line as well. Regardless of the level of his involvement, it still happened on his watch and I'm sure he swept quite a bit under the rug.....
