Jeb Bush Says He's Not Seeking White House

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Jeb Bush on Wednesday brushed off his father's public suggestions that he should run for president.

Gov. Bush, who has repeatedly and sometimes testily said he won't run for the White House in 2008, was asked Wednesday morning about the remarks made by his father, former President George H.W. Bush, on Tuesday's edition of CNN's Larry King Live.

"Oh, Lord," Gov. Bush said as he laughed. Shaking his head, he said: "I love my dad."

Asked if he is running, the younger Bush simply shook his head no.

Former President Bush had said the night before that he would like to see the Florida governor run for the White House.

"Someday I would, yes," said the elder Bush, who turns 81 this month. He said Jeb Bush would be "awfully good" as president.

"This guy's smart, big and strong," he said of his son. "Makes the decisions. And you know, not without controversy, but he's led that state."

The elder Bush said "the timing's wrong" because Jeb Bush has said "he doesn't want to do it." But the former president then added: "Nobody believes that."

Jeb Bush will end his second term as governor in January 2007. His brother George ends his second presidential term in January 2009. Neither can seek re-election because of term limits.

Thank God. The last thing we need is yet another internationalist, open borders Bush in charge of the country.

Actually, I'd love to see a Bush campaign for president . . . but I want that Bush to be George P. and the race to happen in 2024 or 2028!

Didn't think he was going to run anyway. He had said as much a long time ago. It's his father who is pushing it.

After weekly scandals, numerous abducted children due to released sex offenders and then the Terri Schaivo spouse assisted murder, he's still being ASKED? Yeesh!

Nonetheless, he is better than George. I would have preferred him over George anyday.

Exactly!! And we all know that Florida had no problems with sexual deviates until HE became Governor!! And he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for Terri Schivo!! And don't forget ... they have had HURRICANES since he was a Governor!!

Give me a break!! With some of you it is all black and no white ... if you don't get 100% of everything you look for in a Governor or a President he is a total failure!

"Nonetheless, he is better than George. I would have preferred him over George anyday."

I remember reading some scuddlebutt somewhere that the family always called Jeb "The Smart One" and they were very surprised when George got the nod and not Jeb.

Jeb could get the nod for vice-president under President Chaney and then run for president in four or eight years.

Voters might feel less concerned over Chaney's health if they knew a person of Jeb's competence was waiting in the batter's box.

Or Jeb could serve in a number of cabinet posts for eight years and then run.

But first we have to win in 2008 and a small but vocal group of third party loyalists posing as Republicans are jeopardizing that.

Well, those things happened on his watch, and people in charge tend to get blamed whether it's their fault or not. I'm just surprised that the media keeps publishing stories about this. Well, wait. I guess I'm NOT, LOL!

But, if I had a decent Governor, I guess I'd support him, too. I'd still trade you my Governor for yours, anyday. 2006 can't come fast enough for me for us to get rid of Jim Doyle!

LOL I don't think Cheney is running. But that would be interesting if he ran.

Sounds like you bought hook line and sinker into the MSM's bad press of Florida. Think about it.

I don't want him to run for President either, but he has been a great Governor. The majority of folks in Florida, except the blue state transplants love him.

Didn't think he was going to run anyway. He had said as much a long time ago.

Dick Morris advised him to say that, just like he advised Hillary to say she wasn't running for NY Senator.
