Robbie Gordon of NASCAR Will Not Drive IRL Races Against Danica Patrick, Citing Weight Advantage
National Review Magazine: The Corner ^ | 6/1/05 | KJ Lopez

Posted on 06/01/2005 8:14:34 AM PDT by gopwinsin04

Robbie Gordon of NASCAR started the discussion, saying that he wouldn't drive in the Indy Car Racing League series until they do something about Danica Patrick's weight 'advantage.'

'The lighter the car, the faster it goes,' Gordon said. 'Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our cars are at least 100 pounds heavier.'

'I wont race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away.'

I glanced at the weight of the weight of the drivers in the Indy Car Series. They are pretty much smallish guys --between 140 and 155 lbs.

He seems to be willing to race against guys who are about 60 pounds less and had no problem with it before.

With the way race cars suck down fuel, and all the science behind their aerodynamics weight isn't an advantage at all.

Yeah, right. Laws of Physics be damned. Weight doesn't matter -- that's why teams build cars out of cast iron and depleted uranium.

Part of that could be that Michael was never a crowd favorite at Indy. Most see him as a whinny, ego maniac. He never did much for Indy and Indy never did much for him other than make him an 11 time loser. SO his story is not all that great.

Chip Ganassi had a similar story- but more people liked him and he was much more humble to the " track gods at Indy". Michael's didn't really have a "story" that was interesting and it wasn't new so Ho hum.

He didn't brake any records- he isn't that exciting and not many got "chills" from his tale of woe anymore. Beside he made it well known after the race that he considered this to be HIS win. He even rode the victory lap with Weldon and the team. Classless.

I'm (sort of) on your side on this. There's a difference between being sexy and being trashy, and I don't think a female sports celebrity should be posing like a table dancer. If that makes me a prude, so be it. If you're female and good looking, ok, glam it up a bit, but don't start acting like Britney Spears.

Agreed. I'd love to see the series get together again without the delusions of grandeur.

Cheers

I never liked the Andretti family sob-story bit. Mario won Indy, several Indy Car championships, sports car races, the F1 championship, etc., and lived to tell about it. Yet all you ever heard from him was whining about his bad luck at Indy. Eddie Sachs, Swede Savage, Mike Spence - THERE'S some guys who had bad luck.

Robbie is a member of the chunky boys. Maybe he should get off that "see food - eat food" diet.

Some of those FHM pics are real dumb of her to allow, like the one with her ass crack exposed. However, it's part of the game. NASCAR is running a Sexiest driver on the nascar.com sitre. same kind of thing. Sex sells, racing promoters know it.

She has an image to sell, and win or lose, she is selling it and people are buying it. Look at the size of this thread as evidence.

No other 4th place Indy finisher has ever created this much press, except that massively firey crash 40 +/- years ago Was it Salt Walther?)

I believe that God will have no problem with Mike in Iraq. Please be mindful that you are talking there to someone who has "walked the walk".

I wish you would save your judgment for people who are seeking your approval.

I think Salt Walther was involved in one of the big crashes in 1973. He survived, but somebody else - Art Pollard? - was killed in practice, I think. Or was that the year Swede Savage was killed in the race, in that huge fireball? (Actually, he lingered about a month before dying.)

That is what is morally wrong with America today.....no one is supposed to call anyone on bad behavior....I take exception to that and will continue to voice my disapproval when appropriate. As I have said, if people have a problem with my opinion that those pictures are morally unacceptable, take it up with God.

While also over-hyped by the media I think the Andretti bad luck was a legitimate story, although I agree the Andretti's whining (John Andretti excluded) can be annoying. Mario in particular really had nothing to complain about. He won just about everything including the Daytona 500 and is acclaimed as one the greatest drivers of all time. I am interested to see how Marco Andretti develops in the future.

I'm not basing my opinion on what God thinks, or what I think God thinks, but on my own sense of what's appropriate. And I think an overemphasis on sex is as bad or worse than "prudery." Like I said, if Danica or any other female sports celebrity wants to glam it up for the camera, fine, but there are different ways of doing that, different ways of being sexy, and they don't all involve showing your crack or spreading your legs.
