In his just-released, absorbing, and excellent book, "Understanding Jihad", David Cook of Rice University dismisses the low-grade debate that has raged since 9/11 over the nature of jihad — whether it is a form of offensive warfare or (more pleasantly) a type of moral self-improvement.

Cook dismisses as "bathetic and laughable" John Esposito's contention that jihad refers to "the effort to lead a good life." Throughout history and at present, Cook definitively establishes, the term primarily means "warfare with spiritual significance."

Thank you for posting that link USF! It is a good idea for us to reread the agenda of Islam once in a while.

A few points from that link that every one should know and NEVER forget:

This is exactly what needs to happen. Enough of being mutely polite.........or playing a nail-biting "wait and see" game. We need to up the ante, starting with informing these anti-American "imams" in radical mosques here in OUR COUNTRY (and all of their followers), that it is hate speech that they are spewing; - that it is unamerican, and that we are onto them.

Regular killing machine wasn't he? And why would anyone wonder why islam is still a killing machine today? Every-time we see a picture of some dedicated jihadi holding up the severed head of a victim, let us remember who is being emulated - the very same killing machine that muslims call a 'prophet' (methinks the only thing that psychopath fortold is more death, more death ad nauseum.)

That's why I advocate keeping our Constitutional republic STRONG. The system was designed not only to protect minorities, but to prevent any one bloc from grabbing power. If we weaken it, we only open the door for those with totalitarian ambition.
