You've heard the rumors, perhaps even seen a magazine article or two -- several Me 262 jets are now under construction in the United States!!
This incredible project is the result of a decade of privately-administered effort to create flight worthy examples of the Messerschmitt 262 fighter, and is now entering its final stages. Formerly subcontracted to the Texas Airplane Factory and administered by Classic Fighter Industries, Inc. the WTMF owner's group has now assumed watch over the final, and most critical, phase of the project. Our Seattle-based team of expert designers, engineers and technicians recently completed the flight test program for the first of our five jets, while the second machine is rapidly approaching similar tests.
Ping to all WWII aviation buffs.
Way cool! Thanks for the post!
Awesome...I would love to see this airplane fly!

Oh man, I'd love to see that!
Yep! It's right in my back yard. Paine field in Everett,WA.
I was in the hangar a couple years back. What a neat bunch of guys. I saw some of the 1930's engineering drawings all in mertic units and German language. Verrry cool in my book!!
I think I'll drop by this weekend and have another look around...where I can get to that is.
LOOK HERE: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=3220+100th+St+SW,+Everett,+WA+98204&ll=47.900122,-122.283561&spn=0.005429,0.007221&t=k&hl=en
Zoom in as far as it goes. Drag the view over till you see the end of runway 34L. At about 45degrees up and to the right is 2 hangars with grey-green roofs. There is a old DC-3 plane on hte ramp outside and just North. Thats where the ME-262 program is. pretty cool huh?
If you've got a WWII aviation ping list, I'd like to get on it. If not, thanks anyway!
Ping to you!

I'd love to see them fly again.
About a dozen years ago, there was an interesting book titled "The Gray Eagles". It was about a group of ex Luftwaffe pilots who resurrected ME109's in the middle of the western US desert with mayhem on their agenda.
Thanks for the ping Colonel :-0
You're welcome! I knew you'd appreciate this!
Another good book that came out around the same time was Flight of the Old Dog. About a B-52 made stealthy going on a mission into the USSR.
None of the engineers would sign as they saw it fly off. The anti-aircraft crew claimed they put fire into it and it would not make it home.
No WWII Aviation Ping List. Was hoping that someone had one.
IIRC the original First Flight date was supposed to be about 1997 but reality kept getting in the way.
I personally think the Spitfire was the prettiest one ever made but the Messerscmidts, Lightnings, Mustangs, Focke Wulfes, and even the Zero and Thunderbolt were also works of art.
Wow!
Any more pilot-friendly that the ME-110?
