I've been following this since 1995. I don't know if anyone else is aware of this project. Check it out. This is pretty fantastic stuff.

About a dozen years ago, there was an interesting book titled "The Gray Eagles". It was about a group of ex Luftwaffe pilots who resurrected ME109's in the middle of the western US desert with mayhem on their agenda.

The pontoon bridge my Father's outfit was building across the Rhine was attacked by an ME-262. No real damage was done. After the plane left an anti-aircraft crew asked them to sign a statement that they had shot it down.

None of the engineers would sign as they saw it fly off. The anti-aircraft crew claimed they put fire into it and it would not make it home.

IIRC the original First Flight date was supposed to be about 1997 but reality kept getting in the way.

There have been lots of beautiful planes but there really is something about those WWII fighters. (Bombers too for that matter).

I personally think the Spitfire was the prettiest one ever made but the Messerscmidts, Lightnings, Mustangs, Focke Wulfes, and even the Zero and Thunderbolt were also works of art.

Any more pilot-friendly that the ME-110?

Goreous planes. And the guys rebuilding them will be smart enough, unlike Adolph, to let them fly unburdened by heavy (and useless) bombs.

Cool (funny) clip from the movie "Nightflyers" of a Russian girl in a Yak-9U shooting down a Me-262...(apple quacktime required)

If anyone finds a good video clip of the new 262 flying let me know (no 2 second clip stuff)

Here's an example of a "good" video clip..the new FW-190a8 in Germany making it's maiden flight in July, 2004

Too Cool! Though I think they used to throw compressor blades etc., so maybe I won't buy one right away.

MOst people at the time weren't aware of just how far ahead of the Allies the Germans really were. The Japanese also had German jets secretly delivered to them during the closing days of the war, but they never had the chance to use them.
