I wonder if the rules on this forum are applied equally? Several weeks ago I was denied posting privileges because I jokingly advocated a "plan b" in fighting the so far failed war on illegal immigration. My "plan b" was to have border guards retreat to within 200 yards of the border and while fitted with night vision goggles simply drop any illegals attempting to gain access to America.
Now frankly I am not concerned with the fact I was denied posting privileges for a day(reason given was "advocating violence")but I wonder if the folks who post pictures of exploding nukes over text that calls for turning the middle east, or N Korea into a glowing heap of slag. were also denied the ability to post. I did a cursory check and found the names of the posters associated with the nuke threats posting regularly after the aforementioned posts appeared.
Is it possible that some are more equal then others here? I have been referred to as a "newbie" as if that somehow makes what I say less credible then someone here a longer period of time. I believe opinions are opinions and the length of forum membership does not serve to make ones credibility stronger.
It does seem that there is a "good old boy's" network operating here and the old timers are given more leeway as far as the rules then are the newer arrivals. While I have been a FR member for only 8 months I have been an avid political forum debator for 8 or 9 years on places such as the NYT, WP, LAT and others.
There was another incident in which I was accused of a personal attack although I was merely responding to an attack on myself. I never used profanity and merely responded in kind to another whose main complaint was that I was wrong in criticizing the post of another person because that person was a 5 year member. I was also told I didn't know what I was talking about. This resulted in a few back and forth retorts which I frankly found amusing and in no way took as an insult.
I thoroughly enjoy verbal jousting and never shrink from a confrontation. It appears that others see fit to run to the moderator at the first sign of getting back what it is they dish out. It is at that time that I believe the good old boys network comes into play.
If any of you would like to see the posts that caused this simply ask and I will happily post them.
perhaps those of you here who believe the world exists to see your words ought to look into yourselves to try and discover what shortcomings and personal deficiencies exist within your lives that bring you to this conclusion.
B-slapping you for whining is not a shortcoming or a personal deficiency (but it is fun)
Hail the mighty freeper for he can do no wrong. He is all seeing and all powerful.
I can and have done wrong. But that doesn't make me wrong this time.
I'll give some of you one thing, you are a source of amusement
Back at ya!
but I wonder who (sic) much trouble it is to keep that halo shined?
I send mine out.
And you would know this how exactly? (And a belated welcome to you)
"We can agree or disagree but flaming JoeV1 is a bit childlike don't ya think?"
He started it! [Stop touching me!]
Ironically FR was created because of Compuserve censorship, but the only real difference in any forum is who gets to do the censoring. Yes, "power" goes to moderator's heads ... as does the editors for every publication in the counry. Unfortunately, it is human nature, and will never be cahnged.
Then there are people who get all excited waiting for someone to get "zotted" ... the same kind of people who stand at the bottom of a bridge waiting for someone to jump. It's exciting for some people. What are you gonna do?
It is what it is. Don't take it too seriously.
The best thing about this place is that there are few other places on the net where you will find news breaking so fast. I see thing on here 10 minutes before they appear on MSNBC because you have people all over the country making reports.
And you will find some debate every now and then that gives you some real food for thought. Maybe not every hour, or every day ... but a couple of times a week I find a realy good thread with some people I disagree with (but know how to do without childish name calling). It's the exception rather than the rule, but it does exits.
If someone deletes your post unfairly, shrug, realize they need the little control they have here becaue they probably have little control over anything in their real life, and move on.
Complaining is just going to get your tormented, as you may have noticed. It is never met with any rational rebuttals, and you are just gong to get roasted.
Get what enjoyment/information you can get from the site, and don't worry about fairness. It doesn't exist. Here or anywhere else.
Good luck to you.
I have spoken out against actions taken by the owner and the mods. As a result I know that I am watched closer and when someone pushes the abuse button on me, there's a good chance I'll be warned or banned even when others do the same thing and get nothing.
I recently posted a humorous thread about multiple posts on a subject. It was innocent and I thought might get a run based upon the humor. But it was deleted and I was warned. I know that if others did the same the thread would have had a long run.
Of course there are some threads you can't post for serious discussion. But if you put a barf alert or post multiple images of cats, it might get by. And don't argue with any of the zealots on the anti-homo or pro-bush threads.
IMHO the site is too tight on newbies and sometimes we miss an opportunity for good discourse because the thread is overloaded with zotiots.
OTOH this is a human endeavor and you can't please everyone all the time. What I do is get what I want out of the site and try to ignore unfairness or juvenile antics.
They can ignore long-term whiners too.
lol good reply
Nope, but he's pissed off somethin' fierce!
Link.
mommy he not touching me!!!
Yep...I gotta AGREE with ya...
It's not something I do regularly-in fact the example given was quoting someone on DU...but I digress, FRiend.
About 35,000 posts of such over the years, so the ground's the limit...
Oh, brother. [rolling eyes]
I am not sure what the rules are, but I remember a long time, popular, freeper being suspended before. Her friends were all begging the moderator to let her back on, but she had to serve her full suspension. I think you were suspended because it's possible somebody would take you up on your suggestion, whereas it is unlikely that a fellow freeper would have access to a nuclear bomb. Although, my son is a reactor operator on a nuclear submarine. Talk about a scary thought! (Just kidding, Kevin).
We are all equal at birth, after that life diverges and some become more equal than others.
LOL .... Poor Laz HAS been known to get the occasional 'time out' too.
Nam Vet
The rules of FR have never been fairly enforced, and are completely arbitrary and biased.
Oh, brother. [rolling eyes]
Definitely loses something when you have to repeat the post. LOL
You might like it if you understood it.
